Can't download anything on Microsoft Edge!

So I installed Windows 10 today on my PC that was previously using 8.1. I logged in and opened Edge to install chrome (sorry Microsoft). I clicked the "download" button and nothing happened. No pop-up on the bottom of the browser and the "downloads" tabs was completely empty.

Naturally, I clicked the start menu and went to the "Get Skype" link under "Most Used" ,as I wanted to see if my friends had experienced my problem. Unfortunately, it was a download link and the same problem persisted. I'm going to restart my computer to see if that helps.

If anybody has a fix, I could use it.

Edit: Restarted computer, no luck. I've been at it for 30 minutes on the internet looking or an answer.

Edit 2: So, I solved this issue a LONG time ago by simply doing a hard reset before upgrading. It was probably an issue with Windows 10 itself, and not Edge. Sorry for not updating this earlier.

I've had the exact same issue but it seems there are hardly any people out there with the same issue.
I can download apps from the store, but anything from microsoft edge, Internet Explorer, aren't working.

I'm gonna do a fresh install of Windows 10 later today (its currently 1 AM). Gonna get some rest and try in the morning. I'll tell you if it fixes anything.

I tried reinstalling Windows 10 and now I'm only getting an error...

This is basically the only page on the internet where I can find someone with the same issue, so please keep me updated!

I installed Windows 10 on to a USB and booted it using BIOS. I when ahead and did a fresh install and Edge is working perfectly now. I would recommend fresh installing or reverting to 8 and re-upgrading.

I had this problem and based on other suggestions I messed around with clearing the history.  I tried it a few times and it finally solved the problem.  I'm not sure of the exact sequence but it definitely had something to do with the browsing history.  A real strange thing is that the map app wasn't working correctly and this also corrected that problem.

For those who are seeing this, I had the same problem.  (I could not download any programs or view certain web pages)

I had moved to Windows 10 by way of upgrade, as many have.  However as an IT Professional, I had made many changes under the cover or low level changes to my previous OS (Win7) and it was one of these that had caused the problem for me.

The change in question was moving my "Temporary Internet Files" directory to another drive and further the drive was a ram drive (since I have 32GB of ram).  Upon moving this directory back to the C: drive (c:\temp) all my problems were solved.  So Yes, Edge does rely on some of IE's setting or at least this one to some degree regardless of M$ denial.  (more then likely a coder at M$ has coded a system variable in during early days and forgot to change it)

My Fix :

Goto  "Control Panel"

Select  "Internet Options"

Select  "Settings" <button> under the "General" file tab

Verify under "Current Location" that the path is on the C:\ Drive

IF NOT:

Select  "Move Folder..." <button> under "Temporary Internet Files" file tab

Navigate to a folder of your choice on C:\

Good luck and happy browsing.....

Fixed the problem, thanks. Have an SSD as my C: drive and temp files usually going to my other drives to save on space. Seems Edge didn't like this. Set the Temp directory to C:, now downloads work.

I had the same problem until this morning. I tried downloading through Google Chrome (I set  Google as my homepage, then downloaded it from the install button on the page). Downloads worked fine after that, and navigating the web was MUCH faster than Edge. I know Edge was supposed to be faster than IE and closer to Chrome speeds, but it definitely wasn't in my case.

I will try to move my temp file for Edge later to see if that works too. I can't stand when something isn't working properly!
