Show artists image in when browsing artists in Groove Music

I checked off the option "Retrieve and update metadata and arts of the albums" in the settings because my music files are well organized.

How can I put an artist cover? What tag of the MP3 files should I put to display it correctly in the Groove App? Why just few artists are displaying cover, since I organized all folders the same way?

Thanks!

Hi Felipe,

We'd like to know more about your concern so we can come up with an effective solution. Kindly provide the answers to the following questions:

  • Which build and edition of Windows 10 is installed on your computer?
  • Did you purchase these music from the Groove app itself or you've downloaded it from other websites?
  • Have you checked if the images of the artists are saved in the same folder where the audio files are saved?

In the meantime, we suggest running the automated troubleshooter for Windows 10 applications. This tool can scan and repair damages within Windows 10 apps. Visit this link, click on Run troubleshooter and then follow the prompts to successfully run the tool.

We are looking forward to your response.

1 - Windows 10 Pro 1709

2 - The music are all MP3 files I bought from other websites.

3 - Yes, they are saved. See this image:

This may not be a Windows 10 App bug specific in my hardware, as it happens in all PCs I have.

You can understand my question as:

How can I force a specific image to be an artist cover?

Thanks.

Hi Felipe,

We suggest the you create individual folders for each artist and put all their songs in it and include the specific image that you want to see in the artist cover.

Regards.

Hello, I'm already doing this. Look at my artist structure:

Each artist folder has a file called front.jpg:

And each album has a file named called front.jpg.

I'd like to force this fornt.jpg artist-level file to appear at artist's image in Groove.

Try this workaround and see if it works for you:

  1. Make sure that View Hidden folders is enabled. Click on this link for the steps.
  2. Go to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.ZuneMusic_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\ImageCache\20 (Note: Replace USERNAME with your own).
  3. Back up these files, preferably in a separate folder.
  4. Inside the original folder will filled with blank looking files. Change all the file extensions to .jpg
  5. Scroll through this list until you find the images that you want to change. Open the that file using a photo editing software and change the image. Be careful not to change the file name or dimensions and click Save.
  6. After making the changes, remove the .jpg extension back into file. Do this following step 3. Now replace the original in IMAGECACHE/20 with the file you just edited.
  7. Do the same thing on this folder as well: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.ZuneMusic_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\ImageStore

Important: Be sure to backup these folders before making these changes.

Best regards.

Thanks, Rolando! Perfect.

I suspect the artists image's folder is the one you specified in 2, and the album cover's folder is 2.

Just a final step to answer my question.

I know how to change these images, but how can I create a new one for those who are missing? Thanks!

There may be a number of third party apps that can be used to edit the blank pictures of the artists in Groove. With this in mind, can you check if the number of the blank looking files mentioned in step 4 matches the number of artists with blank pictures in Groove? If they match, we may be able to the same thing on the blank images.

Again, be sure sure to backup your folders before making any changes.

You response is highly appreciated.

I have a total of 1026 artists and 6811 albums.

In the folder C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.ZuneMusic_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\ImageStore I have 7842 files.

In the folder C:\Users\Felip\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.ZuneMusic_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\ImageCache\20 I have 85 files.

I guess the numbers don't match.

"There may be a number of third party apps that can be used to edit the blank pictures of the artists in Groove."

This is what I need! Could you recommend one for me?

I didn't find any App that allows me to change/create Groove artist's image.

If you know any App, please let me know the name of it.

Thanks.
