Zune device won't sync with Zune app

I am trying to back up the nearly 2000 songs on my Zune player to my PC (which is running Windows 10). When I open the app, however, it says there is no music on my Zune, even though the space bar says I have used 6.80 GB of the device's memory. I spent over an hour with a Microsoft tech support and, after uninstalling and reinstalling the Zune 4.8 app, still the app would not recognize the songs on the device. Is there a workaround, so I can back up my device songs to my PC? Help...
Hi Renoal. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 year Windows MVP, and Guardian Moderator here to help you.

To back up songs from Zune app to PC see here:

To transfer to Windows Media Player:

To transfer to Itunes:

One of the above should work to help get the music organized, and provide backup players.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Hi Greg. Thanks for your speedy response, and the links to possible fixes. Unfortunately, none of the options allowed me to view the songs on my Zune device from my PC, so I was unable to backup the songs to my PC. I'm wondering if maybe the device firmware needs updating as well? (I've attempted to do this, but without success.)

Can you play the songs?

What type of Zune device is this?

Have you checked if it has latest firmware?

Yes, I can play the songs from the Zune device. When I access the About screen, it simply says Zune, Version 3.1 (50); Bootloader 435. 2008 Microsoft Corp. I'm not really sure where to check for the latest firmware. Through the Zune app, I tried to update the device, but then I get an error code: C00D133C (80190194), saying it "...can't access this item because it's no longer available." But, then, from another screen in the Zune app, I'm told the device is up to date. So frustrating...
