YouTube shortcut icon changed

Original Title: Windows 8.1

Since upgrading to Windows 8.1, my YouTube icons on the desktop and in other folders "changes" to a globe and not the standard YouTube icon.

Before this problem, when I did a create shortcut on a YouTube page, it would display YouTube icon on the desktop.  Now it is displaying a ugly globe.  How do I change it back to YouTube icon and KEEP it there.  Thank you....

Answer

Hi Richard,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

This can be caused due to any third part software conflict or viruses.

Please try the steps below and check.

Step 1: Change the icon back to YouTube icon.

Right click the YouTube short icon and click Properties

Now click on Change Icon tab under Shortcut tab

Choose the icon you want to set and click OK

Step 2: If it still does not change, perform clean boot to avoid any third party software conflict.

Putting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Note: Refer "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting" to reset the computer to start as normal after troubleshooting.

Step 3: If the icon still does not change back to original YouTube icon, run Microsoft Safety Scanner to check for virus and remove when found.

The Microsoft Safety Scanner is a free downloadable security tool that provides on-demand scanning and helps remove viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. It works with your existing antivirus software.

Microsoft Safety Scanner

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To rerun a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

Hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to reply in case you face any other issues with Windows in future.
