Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding

I recently replaced my laptop and have been having problems with the wireless connection at the local library.  Up until last week the wireless was able to connect and only occasionally have the problem with the dns server.  Usually running the diagnose option would eventually resolve the problem with the wireless card being reset.  The past week though it never seems to reset at all and even when I do connect its really slow.  Anyways here the diagnoses details.

Answer

Hey Skulker17,

Follow these methods to troubleshoot the issue.

Step 1: Check the following services.

All of these services should be started, and their startup type should be automatic.

To check:

1.     Go to start and type services.msc

2.     Select services from the search list.

o    Computer Browser

o    DHCP Client

o    DNS Client

o    Network Connections

o    Network Location Awareness

o    Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

o    Server

o    TCP/IP Netbios helper

o    Workstation

 Step 2: Reset TCP/IP

TCP/IP can sometimes become damaged or corrupted. If you cannot connect to the Internet and you have tried the above method to resolve the problem, TCP/IP might be causing it.

There’s a fix it available to reset TCP/IP automatically.

How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357

Step 3: Flush your computer's DNS cache.

1.    Go to start and type cmd.

2.    Right-click on cmd from the programs list and select “Run as administrator”.

3.    Type ipconfig /flushdns.

A message will appear saying that your DNS cache is cleared. Start Second Life. It should run fine this time.

4.     Type ipconfig /registerdns

This command refreshes all DHCP address leases and registers all related DNS names configured and used by the client computer.

Step 4: Update your Network Adapter driver.

Select one of the available options from the link  below and install the correct driver for your operating system.

Intel® WiFi Link 5300 and Intel® WiFi Link 5100 products

See if it’s of any help.
