XMP profile causing windows to crash

Hello,

After encountering a blue screen error today for the first time in 2 years since owning this PC, my pc shut itself down and would not turn on for nearly 30 minutes. After 30 minutes it turned on, and then i was forced to reset my BIOS to its default settings in order to boot. Prior to todays random blue screen encounter, the XMP profile was enabled in my BIOS with no issues for the past 2 years. Now after i was forced to reset the BIOS, enabling XMP leads to Windows crashing and blue screening in an endless cycle trying to fix itself. It is only when XMP is disabled can i boot up Windows with seemingly no issues. All of my drivers are up to date, and seemingly nothing has changed from yesterday to today to cause this problem (other than the random pc crash). I have tried reseating my RAM and the problem still insists.

motherboard: Gigabyte Z590 UD

default ram speed: 2666 MHz

XMP profile speed: 3600 Mhz

major dip in performance.

Are there any steps i can take to resolve this

Thanks in advance

Hi Tommy, thanks for reaching out. My name is Bernard a Windows fan like you. I'll be happy to help you out today, my timezone is UTC +8.

I understand the issue you have, there is nothing to worry I am here to help, the main issue you have is that the PC might not be able to handle high XMP due to overheating or hardware limitations, in addition, can you please check if you have minidump files on the PC so that I can further examine what is the root cause of the issue?

Press Windows key + E (To open File Explorer)

Click "This PC" > then follow the file path:

C:\Windows\Minidump

Copy the Minidump files and save them to another location, such as a desktop or Document.

Then please upload it to Cloud storage, such as OneDrive or any other cloud storage you are using, and share the shareable link here.

To upload and share the link using One Drive:

Go to this link: https://onedrive.live.com/ then upload the file.

Then provide the shareable link by following the steps from this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/shar...

Let me know how it goes and I hope that helps.

Bernard

Hi Tommy, thank you for that information, nothing to worry about, the Minidump files only contain error logs of the PC and don't contain any personal information, kindly follow the steps above to share the Minidump files.

Hi Tommy, thank you for patiently waiting, as per checking and analyzing the DMP files, there is an error mountmgr.sys, this is a driver responsible for managing storage devices or hard drives, in addition, it can be a driver or a hardware error on the PC, in this case, kindly follow the steps below:

-Press the Windows key + X
-Go to Device Manager
-Expand the Storage Controller
-Look for StoreMI or RAID or similar value
-Right-click and Update
-Look for "Browse my computer for driver
-Let me pick drivers available drivers
-Choose an old driver or other names of the driver then click and install it.

If none will work from the above solution, I suggest doing an in-place upgrade wherein it will upgrade the device to the latest version and repair all issues without deleting any files.

Kindly follow the steps from this link:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

Note: If the same issue persists, I highly suggest downloading the latest BIOS update of the PC, however, if the issue persists, this might be due to NVME/SSD/Hard drive on your PC, in that case, I suggest contacting a local technician to check the device for any hardware-related issues physically.

I appreciate your insight. for now, I'm going to try using a memory multiplier of 3200 and avoid using the xmp profile of 3600 altogether. Ive had no luck using the current xmp profile. I believe before my bios got reset, there was a second xmp profile that i was using that was 3200. but for whatever reason, xmp profile 2 no longer exists. it's been 2 years since I've had to go into my BIOS so my memory could be fogged but 3200 is what I remember my speed to be prior.

Hi Tommy, thank you for replying and that would be the best thing to do, in addition, try lowering XMP and observe the device.
