Xerox Documate 152i Scanner on Windows 10

Hi

I have recently purchased a Dell Optiplex 3050 installed with Windows 10 Pro. All the latest  windows updates are now installed. I have connected my Xerox Documate 152i to a USB 2 port ( have also tried a USB 3 port ) and loaded the scanner software / drivers and  also updated to the latest  version of the drivers. which I downloaded from Xerox Web Site. The Device Manager shows the device working properly and if I fire up the Control Panel and select  Devices and Printers  I can  see  the scanner and  can right click and select properties and interrogate the device  with no problem.  If I  right click on the device and select 'Trouble shoot'  I get a message which states this device is not supported on USB 3, reconnect to USB 2 .  When connected to a USB 2 port the same message is always displayed ???   If I fire up the scanner and camera program , select the scanner, right click, then select properties, I get the error "The scanner isn't available, Make sure the device is turned on and is connected to your computer".    If I remove all software and drivers , reboot and then turn on the scanner, Plug and Play detects  it and sets up the device  no matter what port  it is connected to, but always end up with the same problem of not being able to connect to the scanner and actually use it.   I have connected this scanner to my HP Pavilion Laptop which is installed with Windows 10 Home.  I have installed the same drivers and software and the scanner works perfectly on a USB 3 port.    The scanner was previously connected to a Dell PC  on a USB 3 port and also worked perfectly.  Any help with this issue would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks ,  Adam

Since Scanner is Twain as Camera's are, try turning on these

Image

You can run this too.

Image

You can also look in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Devices and Printers

and locate it and check your settings there. and troubleshoot. Try using Microsoft Scan if that still exists to see if it will work.

Try using your software and scan buttons manually.

Hi Vijay

Thanks for the reply.  I have gone through the steps you have detailed but I still cannot connect to the scanner. The Documate 152i is a stand alone scanner and not  a printer device with scanning capability.  I have no way of adding it manually in 'Printers and Scanners'  It will always automatically install when I plug it in the the USB port and turn it on.

If I go to \Programfiles\Windows Photo Viewer  and fire up ImagingDevices  , the 'Scanners and Camera' window appears.  In there I can select add a device which starts the Scanner and Camera installation Wizard. from which I can add either of the two available scanners in the list, select the pre installed software and it adds successfully. I can then select properties and successfully view them and even run the diagnostic test successfully.   If i select properties for the Documate scanner , I still get the error  that the scanner isn't available.

On  Windows 10 home edition The, Documate driver was pre installed  and  did not select to replace it.  On windows 10 Pro the Documate driver isn't pre installed so had to load one.   The problem does appear to be associated with not having a pre installed driver delivered with Windows 10 Pro

Well have you tried to uninstall all software related to this scanner in programs and features

restart PC

Then try and install it using Windows 8 compatibility mode.

Complete detailed steps here.

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_other-windows_programs/how-to-install-devices-software-from-older-windows/c19bee9c-431f-46e2-85f1-6ab90304d278?tm=1526498844033

I have did this a few times for devices that DO have 10 drivers but would not install or run correctly and it worked.

Hi wil

Thanks for the reply.   I have  completely de-installed all software / drivers on numerous occasions and re-installed many different ways ,   always end up with not being able to connect / use the scanner.   This new  compatibility method is something I haven't tried, basically because I didn't know it was an option.  Thanks Wil ,  I'll give it a go when next in the office. This Documate scanner worked fine on a Dell running Windows 7, so I'll  select Win 7 compatibility and see what happens and let you know

1.  I have completely uninstalled all software and drivers, rebooted and reinstalled software from  Xerox Documate 152i CD using Windows 7 compatibility mode , rebooted.  Then fired up the scanner and camera program , select the scanner, right click, then select properties, I still  get the error "The scanner isn't available, Make sure the device is turned on and is connected to your computer".

2.  I have completely uninstalled all software and drivers, rebooted and reinstalled software from CD using Windows 8 compatibility mode , rebooted.  Then fired up the scanner and camera program , select the scanner, right click, then select properties, I still  get the error "The scanner isn't available, Make sure the device is turned on and is connected to your computer

3.  I have completely uninstalled all software and drivers, rebooted and reinstalled driver DM152i_COMIS_5.1.217.10252.xx.exe ( Downloaded from Xerox Web site ) using Windows 7 compatibility mode , rebooted.  Then fired up the scanner and camera program , select the scanner, right click, then select properties, I still  get the error "The scanner isn't available, Make sure the device is turned on and is connected to your computer".

4.  I have completely uninstalled all software and drivers, rebooted and reinstalled driver DM152i_COMIS_5.1.217.10252.xx.exe ( Downloaded from Xerox Web site ) using Windows 8 compatibility mode , rebooted.  Then fired up the scanner and camera program , select the scanner, right click, then select properties, I still  get the error "The scanner isn't available, Make sure the device is turned on and is connected to your computer".

Additional tests:

1. I have tried all 4 USB 2.0 ports on this Dell Optiplex 3050

2. I have tried two of the USB 3.x  ports

3. When I turn the scanner on , with no software installed,  Plug and play will detect it in any port and create the device in Device Manager  with no driver. I can then successfully install the driver and the device is then shown to be working properly.  If I then fire up the scanner and camera program , select the scanner, right click, then select properties, I still  get the error "The scanner isn't available, Make sure the device is turned on and is connected to your computer".

Until I can successfully view the properties of the Scanner in the 'Scanner and  Camera'  window  the scanner will remain unavailable for use  because it cannot be recognised by any windows scanner programs

Well, there has been a lot of issues on 10 with cameras and scanners or USB devices in general.

I actually installed the same one for a customer back in February in v1709 and it installed and ran fine.

I guess go buy a new USB 2.0 high speed cable.

Try this

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Devices and Printers

Right click on your PRINTER and select Scan Properties and test.

and start scan and see what happens.

You state the drivers are loaded and showing good in device manager.

Go see if there is a FIRMWARE update for your unit. This is not drivers or software you install on PC, this updates the Units firmware inside of it.

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Devices and Printers

Try the ADD a Device and see what happens.

If you just connected this first time to this PC or if this happened after windows upgrade or cumulative update, I would, uninstall the update and try and then update PC, or go back to previous OS such as v1709, install it and then upgrade to v1803.

You can run these 3 commands as admin in command prompt.

right click on start menu button>>Command Prompt (ADMIN)

Press enter after each one and restart PC when finished. (Copy and Paste)

sfc /scannow

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Restart PC
