wordpad opens in "label" size - how to select 8.5 x 11?

I have a brand new computer, windows 10 from dell just 3 weeks ago, and start up wordpad and I see a really narrow page with a ruler that to "..1...2.." maybe 3 inches long, maybe 2

clicking on file I see page setup and the page sizes range from 1-1/7" x 3-1/2 to (or maybe down to) visitor name badge label

WHISKY TANGO FOXTROT is this?

Where is a normal page size?

I cannot adjust the ruler.

Why in the world would something like this even show up?  I bring up word 2016 and can select a blank page and no problem.

Did anyone even test wordpad before releasing it?  Is wordpad designed only for labels?

Answer

Yes, that is exactly what I want.  Unaccountably, there is no way to get it.  "letter" is not an option.

!!!!!!!!BUT I DID FIND A WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!

I brought up windows 10 printer option page and spotted let bill gates pick the worst printer possible "let windows manage my printers" and unchecked that and checked my HP Laser printer 1410 to be the permanent default printer.  I then got all the correct page sizes just like you show above.
