Windows11 Random Reboots - No BSOD

The reboots began within the last two weeks. No blue screen, no warning, just a reboot. The reboots occur at random times and under random conditions. The machine is not hot nor under load when the problem occurs.

Previously, I had read that a percentage of Windows11 PCs were affected by a Windows software update, and that by falling back to the previous version, the problem would be resolved. I had tried that several weeks ago, and it worked. Intentionally (and unfortunately), in the process of trying to do a clean install of Windows11, I completely erased the main drive (an NVMe SSD) and whatever ISO I'm using appears to be the latest version of Windows11, so not sure how to acquire a prior version. I know a prior version would be a temporary fix, as things will have to be updated, eventually.

I've replaced the RAM (from year-old ARGB to month-old non-ARGB).

I've replaced the NVMe SSD (from Gen 3 to Gen 4).

I've replaced the power supply (from 750W to 850W).

I've replaced the AIO (from 240mm to 360mm).

All overlays (nVidia Graphics Card, Gigabyte Control Center, Logitech Hero mouse) are disabled or removed entirely.

Nothing is overclocked.

I'm actually surprised that the machine hasn't rebooted while typing this, as random and often as the problem occurs.

Hi Rob,
My name is Igor, it's a pleasure for me to help others and I'll try to help you.

Please check system journal (Event Viewer) for possible errors at these moments, especially Kernel-Power errors. DistributedCOM errors should be ignored.
Or save system journal to evtx file and share it to OneDrive for analysis.

These events are not related to reboots. Please save entire journal to EVTX file and share it to OneDrive.

Actually, they are related to the reboots as they are what was logged before, during, and after when the reboot occurred.

This link seemed to have finally worked.

Appreciate any insights you can offer. The machine has rebooted itself a few more times while trying to send this update.

The phenomena appears driver-related.

I did another clean install of Windows11, and the only driver I provided was a generic Intel WiFi driver. Once connected, I let Windows11 try its best at selecting drivers for detected hardware. That was promising, as no random reboots were occurring.

I used the standalone nVidia driver sans application, and opted to not install the gaming mouse engine.

Leaving everything else generic, the system was stable.

Gigabyte Control Center (motherboard software) version 24.10.28.01, 847.15MB, Nov. 4th, 2024 seems to contain the problem. Something in the suite of included drivers causes Trojan Horse-like behavior (from what I've gathered from the Event codes). I tempted fate and installed GCC, and after one intentional restart, I had three random system-initiated reboots.

I started over with a clean drive, and clean install, and opted to do without GCC.

No more random reboots.

I can't change the ARGB fan colors or speeds via the GCC app, but I was able to tune the fans via the BIOS. I did some rendering in Blender, and a few hours of gaming, followed by numerous benchmarks.

I'll deal with a rainbow wave on the fans if it means no more random reboots.

Not sure if this was the only thing to resolve the problem, but I enabled “dummy load” in the BIOS power settings, preventing the PSU from shutting down the computer during low load detections. Doesn’t explain all the errors in the System log, but so far, the random reboots have stopped.
