Windows10 reverted back to windows8.1

Purchased dell XPS27 windows 8.1, upgraded to windows 10 when it became available. Windows 10 has been working well for me until about 2 weeks ago.

Shut down computer properly, after 3 days I returned home and restarted computer. On restart computer, on its own, reverted back to the old windows 8.1 but will not let me download anything.

Want to know how to get my windows10 back?? Have tried a lot of things but evidently not the right thing.

HELP!!

HI,

It seems that the System really rolled back to Windows 8.1.

I suggest that you perform a repair/in-place upgrade to upgrade to Windows 10.
Follow the instructions below.

A. Downloading the Windows 10 ISO file.
1. Download the tool (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209), and select Run. You need to be an administrator to run this tool.
2. If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
3. On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC and then select Next.
4. Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. (Select the same as the currently installed system on your PC)
5. In "Select which media you want to use", Select ISO file then click Next.
6. Select the download location then click Save.
7. Windows 10 ISO file will be downloaded,

B. Repair Upgrade installation.
1. Right-click Windows 10 ISO file and click Mount.
2. Open/run the Setup.exe.
3. The preparation starts
4. To get important updates, select Download and install updates. (Wait while checking for updates).
5. Accept the terms of the license agreement
6. The installation is ready to be applied, verify the information and ensure that "Keep personal files and applications is checked".
7. Click on Install to start the upgrade.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.

You don't have a fit & proper dual-boot (going by MSConfg). Still, it might be you have two complete versions of Windows plugged in at once. That could happen, if someone once made a clone & left both plugged in afterward. So, let's see "right-click START, Disk Management". Use the divider lines in the Header & between the panes to make it readable. Use Shift+WinKey+S to invoke Snip & Sketch.

Do you have two or just one (like mine)? If two, we'd have get Win 10 to boot again, then delete Win 8.1.

Hi,

There must be something that prevents the Windows upgrade to be installed.

Please try the following and then upgrade again.

1. Use System File Checker to check and fix corrupted system files that may be the cause of the issue. Please refer to the link.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/402652...

2. Unplug any USB device except the mouse and keyboard.

3. Uninstall any 3rd-party Antivirus Program.

4. Update device drivers and BIOs if it's available.

Then Upgrade the PC again using the Windows 10 ISO file.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.

HI,

Sorry for the late reply.

There must be a problem with the Windows 8.1 system.

I suggest that you try to Reset the PC.
Click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.
Tap or click Update and recovery, and then tap or click Recovery.
Under Remove everything and reinstall Windows, tap or click Get started.

Once successfully Reset the PC, try to do a Repair/in-place upgrade to Windows 10 again.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.
