Windows XP does not recognize iPhone - unrecognized device error

I am running Windows XP (SP2 I think) and whenever I plug in my iPhone I get the error message unrecognized USB device. So iTunes will not recognize it and I cannot sync. My guess is that I am missing or have an out of date driver, but I don't know how to locate and install. If it makes a difference I am using a brand new MacBook Pro and running Windows XP through Parallels Desktop. I don't believe that's the issue, however, as I used to be able to sync with my contact manager (ACT!) via Outlook. It seems to be simply a function of Windows not being able to identify the iPhone through the USB port. A simple solution would be appreciated but I'll take complicated if that's all that's available.

Hello abogadopeter,

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers Community.

This issue has been a known issue it seems by Parallels. I have done some searching and read through some of the threads for some workarounds. It does not seem to be a conclusive fix, but works to some degree. You can take a look at http://forum.parallels.com/search.php and simply search for ipod and look through some of these as well.

Hope this helps
