Windows XP Add Remove Programs tool does not open, can't access Add Remove Programs area on Control Panel.

When I try to open the Add/Remove Programs tool in Windows XP, it does not open.  The window appears briefly, but then it disappears and I do not receive an error message.

My system is current with latest anti virus scans clear.

Have I lost some registry entries?

Unfortunately System Restore has not helped.

Grateful for your advice.

First, click on the link below and download the appwiz.cpl file saving it to your desktop. Right click on the file and choose copy. Next, click start > run > type x:\windows\system32 (x represents the drive letter of your primary drive usually c). In a free space within the system32 folder right click and choose paste. If you receive a prompt to replace the existing file choose yes.  Reboot your computer and attempt to access add/remove.
