Windows Vista - User doesn't appear on login screen

When I started my computer this morning, I couldn't get any further than to the login screen.
Everything seems just fine until the login screen. This is what happens:
My user appears on the screen for about half a second and then I just see the blue Vista background.
It does actually appear sometimes, but only for that half second.

I've noticed that it is possible to write there and press enter, but it just shows a message I dont have time to read (yeah, the message only shows for that half second). I'm almost sure it says that the password is wrong, but that can't be right, I'm absolutely certain that the password is correct.

I have tried to reboot, normal and safe mode, but the same thing happens. Any ideas how to solve this, anyone?

Hi ChristofferS,

Welcome to Microsoft Windows Vista Community site.

I would suggest you to run the System Recovery tool to fix this issue.

Follow the link below to run the utility and check for how to access the System Recovery Options menu?

I would suggest you to run these system recovery options from the link below

1) Startup Repair
2) System Restore (as it was working well previously)

Let me know if that does or does not work. Good luck!
