Windows Vista Service Pack 2 64bit

I have Windows Service Pack 1 installed on my computer running Vista Ultimate 64bit. I tried to install Windows Service pack 2 64bit and received the following message:

Windows has detected unsupported language files

To continue, obtain a version of the service pack that supports the language files listed below. Or, uninstall the language files listed below and then restart the installation.

Arabic (Saudi Arabia)

Thai (Thailand)

Chinese (Simplified, PRC)

Chinese (Traditional, Hong Kong S.A.R.)

How do I uninstall those language files?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, I managed to find the solution to my problem:

How to remove a language pack

    Start button
    , and then click Control Panel.
    In Control Panel, click Clock-Language, and Region, click Regional and Language Options,
    On the Keyboard and Languages tab, click Install/uninstall languages under Display language.
    User Account Control permission
    If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
    In Choose to install or remove languages, click Remove languages.
    Under Select the languages that you want to remove, select the language that you want to remove, and then click Next.
    Click the language that you want to remove, and then click Remove.

When (exact date, preferably) did you purchase the computer?

Was it a brand-new computer or a used (refurbished) computer when you purchased it?

Think it was Feb 2009. It is a Sony Laptop VGN AW27GY and I bought it new with the preloaded software. When I first started it up I was required to make a set of recovery disks (which I did).

The VAIO AW is equipped with a 18.4-inch 16:9 Real Wide LCD that and came preloaded with full HD/Adobe® RGB expressiveness for photos from image Adobe® Photoshop®Lightroom® / Adobe® Premier® Elements and a Blu-ray Disc™ combo drive. I believe that this Sony Laptop was the first laptop to have a Blu-ray Disc instead of the usual DVD.

As I mentioned in my earlier question I have found how to delete those language files - which I have now done. I will try to install Windows Service pack 2 64bit again and see what happens.

Did you just have occasion to use those recovery disks to do a clean install of Vista for some reason and if not, why wasn't SP2 installed years ago?

Hi, As mentioned earlier, I was able to delete the Language files which prevented me installing SP2. I have now successfully installed Vista SP2 64bit and everything appears to be working OK. Many thanks for your concern to assist.

The computer should NOT be connected to the internet or any local networks (i.e., other computers) in its current state. All of your personal data (e.g., online banking & credit-card passwords) should be considered at-risk, if not already compromised.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OPTION A: You may obtain Microsoft-sponsored Premium (i.e., paid) Support via the Answer Desk => http://answerdesk.microsoftstore.com [1]
OPTION B: Chances are you're seeing the effects of an ongoing & longstanding hijackware infection, possibly compounded by a W32/Alureon-variant rootkit infection!  See...
   • Cleaning a Compromised System
      http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc700813.aspx
Then see the (my) ANSWER post in this thread and follow those instructions (to-the-letter & in order!) to return your computer to a secure & functional state: http://answers.microsoft.com/thread/c44429fb-3f7c-4646-8529-5a97bb3cd0eb
If you need additional assistance with the clean install, please begin your own new thread in this forum & ask for guidance: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-system
If these procedures are outside of your technical "comfort zone" - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the computer to a local, reputable and independent (i.e., not a "BigBoxStore" or the Geek Squad!) computer repair shop & let them do the work.
Wish I'd had better news for you.  Good luck!
Hi,
Thanks again for your concern.  I am not sure that my system has been compromised. The original recovery discs were made the first time I started up the laptop before ever connecting it to the Internet - so I would assume that Sony had provided me with clean software.  I did a complete reinstall from those original recovery discs - reformatting the drive and restoring the computer to its original factory shipped condition. I then reinstalled the software I prefer to use and other programmes.  My banking sites are secure and I never leave any passwords on my computer. Passwords are only entered each time I access those secure sites. Passwords are frequently changed and are always as long as allowed - often 16 characters or longer.  If ever I wish to record a password in a file on my computer it would be in the following manner:
Date of overseas trip Password used at last High School in Randwick
****************(16)
This password containing a combination of upper and lower case alpha, numeric and symbol characters available on the keyboard would have in excess of 7.3 thousand million combinations. Anybody trying to access my secure accounts would have the account locked after three failed attempts to get in.
