Windows update KB5033372 always failing.

Hello, for about a month I've been trying to update Windows 10 22H2, but update KB5033372 always results in the "We couldn't complete the updates, undoing chages" error. I've tried deletig the downloaded update files and redownloading them, sfc /scannow, chkdsk, dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, but nothing worked so far. I'm getting kinda desperate and windows won't stop bugging me about updating while I literally can't. Here are my specs exported from Speccy. If I can provide any log files or anything else, please do let me know. Any help would be very much appreciated, Tomeš.

Hi VojtěchTomeš ,

I'm Christine, a Windows user like you. Looks like you're having issue installing update. No worries, I'll do my best to help you.

May I know the version or build of Windows that you're running? (Please press Windows key+R and type winver and hit enter)
We can try to perform in place upgrade, but before that, I need to make sure that your device is running at least Windows version 1909 to make sure that it will not delete anything on your device. Will wait for your response.

Thank you,
Christine L

One of the most common reasons for the LCU rollback is the missing Edge browser.

If Microsoft Edge was uninstalled earlier, reinstalling it fixes the issue.

Let me know how it goes.

Upload the CBS logs

If that doesn't help, please upload your CBS logs to OneDrive and share the link here.

  • c:\windows\logs\cbs\                   <= Zip and upload all files in this folder.

Additionally, upload the following file:

  • c:\windows\INF\setupapi.dev.log

(How-To: Share OneDrive files and folders - Microsoft Support)

I have the exact same issue, and while I remember uninstalling\downgrading Edge somewhere around 2020/21, installing the latest version didn't fix it for me. What should I do? I'm running the same Win10 version as the top post.

I'd upload the CBS logs if needed, provided it's safe to link them in a public forum.

Yes, the CBS logs are needed to narrow down the issue. It's safe to upload them, as the CBS logs don't contain any sensitive information.

Your issue is different from the OP. Yours is a case of missing assemblies (error 0x80073701), which can be fixed by doing a repair installation.
