Windows Spotlight in Windows 10 lock screen repeating the same images over and over?

I'm finding that the Windows 10 Spotlight lock screen is repeating images over and over again, even after I've rated it once, they come back and ask me to re-rate it again. This has been happening over the past year or so. In the past, you'd just get a new image and you'd never see the old images again after you've rated it. Now they seem to repeat within the month, maybe every two weeks? Is this something that can be fixed?

Hi

Welcome to Microsoft community.

Windows Spotlight is a feature in Windows 10 that displays different backgrounds on the lock screen and offers suggestions on the Windows lock screen. However, sometimes it may end up showing the same images repeatedly. Here are some steps you can take to potentially resolve this issue:

  1. Reset Windows Spotlight:

    • Open Settings > Personalization > Lock screen.

    • Change the background setting to something other than Windows Spotlight (e.g., Picture or Slideshow), then change it back to Windows Spotlight.

  2. Clear Windows Spotlight Assets:

    • Sometimes, the issue might be due to corrupted files in the Windows Spotlight cache. To clear the cache:

      • Open File Explorer and go to the following path:

        %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Assets

      • Delete all the files in this folder.

      • Then, navigate to

        %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\Settings

      • Delete the files named settings.dat and roaming.lock.

      • Restart your computer.

  3. Use the Windows Spotlight Troubleshooter:

    • Windows 10 includes a troubleshooter for Windows Spotlight issues. To access it:

      • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.

      • Look for the Windows Spotlight troubleshooter and run it.

  4. Reset the Windows Spotlight Feature via PowerShell:

    • You can also try to reset Windows Spotlight through PowerShell. Open PowerShell as an administrator and execute the following commands:

      Get-AppxPackage -allusers *ContentDeliveryManager* | foreach {Add-AppxPackage -register "$($_.InstallLocation)\appxmanifest.xml" -DisableDevelopmentMode}

    • After running this command, restart your computer.

  5. Create a New User Account:

    • If none of the above steps work, the issue might be specific to your user profile. You can try creating a new user account to see if Windows Spotlight works correctly there.

Windows Spotlight also depends on your internet connection to download new images and content. If your connection is unstable or slow, it might affect the feature's ability to update the lock screen background.

Please feel free to let me know how it goes.

Best regards
