When I try to open the app, the window turns white and closes immediately. I tried resetting and reinstalling it, but nothing seems to work.

Hello Kevin,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community and I'll be glad to assist you today.

I understand that the Windows Photos app is crashing as soon as you open it.

Have you tried re-installing the Photos Apps from the Windows PowerShell?

1. Open PowerShell as Administrator. Execute the command below and click enter.

Get-AppxPackage *Microsoft.Windows.Photos* | Remove-AppxPackage

This will remove the Microsoft Photos app.

You can download it again from the Microsoft Store.

2. Update Graphics Drivers.

a. Open the Device manager.
b. Expand the arrow next to the Display adapters to expand it.
c. Right-click your dedicated graphics driver, select update driver > Search automatically for available drivers and install it.

If Windows cannot find the drivers, go to your Graphics driver manufacturer website to download and install the latest drivers.

3. Run the system file checker Utility scan.
a. Open Command Prompt as administrator.
b. Execute the commands below one by one and click enter for each command.

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow

c. Restart your computer and open the Microsoft Photos app.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let me know and I will be happy to help you further.

Best regards,

Gunasekar N

Hi kevin,

If the issue persists, we can try creating a new test profile and see if it works.

1. Click Windows + R key, type netplwiz and click ok.
2. Click Add > Sign in without a Microsoft account (Not recommended).
3. Click Local account > Create a temporary username and password.
4. Sign out and sign in with the new user profile created.

Open the Photos app and see if it works there. If it works, let me know.

Best regards,

Gunaserkar N
