Windows Photo app cannot play video

Hello,

Windows Photo app doesn't want to play any of my videos, which it used to.

It says "try opening this file in another app. we're having trouble reading it".

The file paths have not been changed and the video plays fine in other players.

I thought maybe if I reinstall Win Media Player from add remove windows features that it would fix the problem but the installation gives me an error - 0x800f0922

I don't necessarily want Win Media Player, I just want to open videos in Photo app.

Alternatively, is it possible to make Photo app use the system default player for videos, like VLC for example?

Thank you!

Just for test right click on one of the videos and then click on open with and select another app and see whether you are able to open them. What is the extension for these videos?

Try open Store and check for update and update Windows App and other Apps.

"Open with" gives me the same error. Doesn't even let me choose another app.

"Open folder" works fine though.

Formats are avi, mp4, mkv, none of them work.

Ran the update from Store. It did nothing. I guess they get updated automatically from Win update.

Any other suggestions?

When you click on Open with, does it show you any options?

You may right click on the application and in Properties and General tab, you may select to open with other application.

'Open with' just gives me the same error. No options at all.

I know how to open with other applications. The question is can I use the Photo app as a catalogue and make them play in VLC. Or just fix Photo app so it works...

You couldn't modify the way Photo App works, but you may assign specific format to open with another application. For example set all MP4 files open with Windows Media Player.

In addition, you may open Feedback Hub app and report these issues with Photo App and request to improve them and post it as suggestion.
