Windows Media Player's overlay doesn't display any info about songs playing

After a recent update the Windows Media Player stopped showing information about the currently playing song, as well as it's thumbnail. The song clearly has a thumbnail:

However, when changing volume, what I would get at best is the song title with the album name, no thumbnail:

At worst (the most common outcome), it would give no information at all, just a blank overlay with the controls and one word: Mediaplayer

The song currently playing has all of the neccessary attributes:

I've searched for an answer online, but no luck. The furthest I got was people missing these overlays entirely, which is not my problem.

Spamming the "play" button on a song would eventually trigger the name to appear:

However, after clicking again, the name would disappear into nothingness.
