Windows Media Center add-ons for BluRay

Does Microsoft sell or offer a package to install that will allow my vista media center to play BluRay Disc? I have installed a bluray player internal drive, and it works fine, but it will not play bluray disc in windows media center. It does work if I install a bluray player program like Power DVD, but I would like to stay with Microsoft products if possible. Does Microsoft offer any thing to make blurays play in the media center???

Windows does not have Blu-ray playback built in, but the two popular third-party solutions are quite reliable: Power DVD and TotalMedia Theatre. You'll need the super-ultra-supreme version of whichever product you choose for all Blu-ray playback capabilities, including support for 3D and BD Live. Unfortunately, they both retail for over $100, but you can usually find seasonal deals on them. Both also offer add-ins for Windows Media Center in case you choose to use Media Center to watch movies. My preference is TotalMedia Theatre, but both will work in Windows 8 (but not Windows RT), all the way back through Windows XP SP3 (as long as you have sufficiently capable hardware).

Hi William,

Blu-Ray is a patented technology so it requires appropriate codecs to be purchased and hence we cannot include it in our Operating System.

Windows Vista Media Center will not play Blu‑ray Disc. In order to play a Blu‑ray Disc, you need to use a non-Microsoft program (like Power DVD) that supports Blu‑ray playback and a device capable of reading Blu‑ray Discs.

Note: Using Third Party Software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Third Party Software can be solved. Using Third Party Software is at your own risk.

Hope the information helps.
