Windows Locks at 100% battery charge

So, there was some electricity problems in the area i was living in at that time and i was playing a game and suddenly the power went off from the whole district, unfortunately i wasn't able to close the laptop and wait for the power to comeback so i kept playing until the laptop went 0% charge and locked itself (blue screen with locking).

After that day, whenever the laptop's battery reaches 100% the laptop locks itself, screen is off (black screen) but the power is still on (fans and keyboard lights), i also can't restart the laptop from the power button. I have to leave the battery to fully discharge then plug it again.

i have tried different things but the one that worked the most is when i disabled the battery and worked on the charger alone, the laptop was working normally but of course i don't to keep working without the battery, after that I connected the battery again but still the problem remains. So, disabled the laptop to autolock from the power options and the critical battery options but sadly i couldn't find 'do nothing' option in on battery term and i only found it in 'plugged in' so i made it to 'shutdown' on battery to see if it's any different and yes now the laptop shutdown instead of the hibernation (screen off and power on). And something new happened just now, after the laptop locked itself it shutdown instead of hibernating as i explained. So, i turned on the laptop i let the battery to drop a little before i connect the charger but after i connected the charger the lid gave me (4 red lights and 1 white, one after another with no stops like spam) 4 reds 1 white, i left the charger as it is and now it is charging fine, but still eventually when it reaches 100% this whole scenario will be played over again.

I haven't yet tried to re-install the battery drivers, tbh i don't really know how to do it and i also don't know if it's ok to do it. So, can you please help.

Hi Mohammed Lotfy,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community Support

The behavior you're describing—locking itself at 100% charge, shutting down instead of hibernating, and the flashing lights—suggests there might be a problem with the battery drivers, firmware, or even the battery itself.
Here's how you can do it:

Step 1: Reinstall Battery Drivers

Reinstalling the battery drivers can often resolve power-related issues. Here's how you can do it:

  1. Open Device Manager:

    • Press Win + X and select "Device Manager."

  2. Locate Battery Drivers:

    • Expand the "Batteries" section.

    • Right-click on "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" and select "Uninstall device."

  3. Restart Your Laptop:

    • Restart your computer. Windows will automatically reinstall the battery drivers during the reboot.

Step 2: Update Battery Firmware

  • Check your laptop manufacturer's website for any firmware updates for your battery. These updates can fix bugs and improve compatibility.

Step 3: Test Battery Health

  • Use your laptop's built-in battery diagnostic tool (if available) or third-party software to check the health of your battery. If the battery is failing, replacing it might be necessary.

Step 4: Adjust Power Settings

  • Since you've already tried modifying power options, ensure that:

    • Critical battery actions are set to "Shutdown" or "Hibernate."

    • Disable "Fast Startup" in the power options, as it can sometimes cause issues.

Step 5: Reset the Battery

  • Perform a battery reset:

    1. Shut down your laptop and disconnect the charger.

    2. Remove the battery (if removable) and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

    3. Reinsert the battery and reconnect the charger.

Step 6: Seek Professional Help

  • If the issue persists, it might be worth consulting your laptop manufacturer or a certified technician. They can diagnose hardware issues or provide a replacement battery if needed.
