Windows is turning off an USB port RANDOMLY

Here is a not fun problem, windows has been randomly turning off my left USB port, it's not being disabled like in the device manager, it's something else, it can happen anytime, it will just randomly stop working, and will only come back once i restart the computer, i've been trying uninstalling it and reinstalling it and it's drivers, when it happens, it shows in the device manager that there is some problem with the device (the USB entrance) this thing is part of the computer, and windows just decided "nope, it ain't working", it's not a contact issue, since when i connect the mouse it glows and energy passes through it, the thing is that windows stops accepting any input from it, doesn't matter the drivers, or whatever i try to do in the device manager, nothing works, if you're a real person reading this, please do not tell me to update drivers, reinstall the device, whatever, i've already tried it, it will only come back when i restart the computer, which is absurdly unbearable, since i need my keyboard, and my mouse to do everything, work? need'em, playing any games? need'em, making music? need'em, and i cannot have both when only one USB port is working, what is happening here? and how can i solve it without having to restart the computer, lose a match and get banned because of abandoning the match, or having to stop whatever work i'm doing, turn off the computer, turn it on again, wait 5 minutes for it to restart, insert password, wait another 5 for it to confirm, and then wait another 5 for it to fully start up, PLEASE give me a way to fix it without having to restart the machine.

Hi Alexandre. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

I'll give you all fixes for USB failure which I've given thousands of times in forums for twelve years and work most of the time. Even if you've tried a fix please do it over in the recommended order as this can matter.

I'll give you everything possible to try for USB dysfunction which we see a lot here:

1) Try all other USB ports to compare.

2) Update your Chipset and USB drivers from the PC maker's Support Downloads web page for your full model number, HP Serial Number, or Dell Service tag from the sticker on PC.

While there check that you also have the latest chipset, BIOS, display, network, bluetooth, USB and all other drivers, compared to the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button.

Compare the latest drivers with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu. Make sure you have the latest BIOS, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

If no newer or this doesn't help, then go to the USB category in Device Manager, open each Enhanced, Hub and Host controller, from Driver tab select Roll back if available, or if not choose Uninstall.

If your keyboard and mouse are USB, first program the power button to effect the needed restart after Rolling back or uninstalling the driver. Go to Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional Power Settings > Choose what Power buttons do to choose Shutdown.

Finally open the USB controller drivers, from Driver tab choose Update Driver, then Automatically. If that doesn't help then choose Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick to try all previously installed drivers queued there.

3) Try all the steps here:

7) Go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

8) Do you know when this started? If this was caused by Windows Update(s) then you can check which were installed at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Installed Updates, then uninstall them from the link there, and hide with the Hide Updates tool explained here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8280-hide-s...

You can also use System Restore to get before the problem began, then check for Updates with the Hide Update tool and hide them: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-r...

If this was caused by a Version Update then you can roll it back in Settings>Update & Security>Recovery and then hide it until it matures using the Hide Updates Tool.

8) If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool and then choosing to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, and is also the most stable method to advance to the latest version. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
