Windows failed to start

I have seen that many people have the same or similar problem but where ever I've looked I could not find a solution to my problem so I've come to the conclusion that there must be certain things which are preventing me from following the steps I am prompted to take.

Firstly, when I start up my computer it says "windows has failed to start"
It then goes on to say that I should insert my windows installation disk and restart my computer but when I do that it just goes back to the same screen. I think I might know the reason this is happening, I own windows 7 home premiumbut when the free windows 10 update came out I downloaded it naturally.

I have tried launching the boot menu on startup by pressing F8 but all it does with that is flash something so quicklythat I can't read it then go back to the windows failed to start.

I have tried all the different menus and looked everywhere on the internet but I couldnt find a way to fix this problem. Will I have to get win 10 as a hard copy on a disk and install it with that?

I am running a custom computer (can't remember all the specs) which is about 2-3 years old.

Also, I have some very important files on my computer which I do not while fixing this problem.

Please help

Do you have a win 10 dvd (USB)  If not get one below

Does your media boot on another computer?

Have you set your boot options to boot from the DVD/USB first?

The fastest way to get the upgrade is to download the ISO.

I would use the techbench link

The Official Final Windows 10 download is now available (10586)

Use the download tool to create ISO media to update your windows.

You need to be more specific about what you do not understand.

I asked if you have a win 10 dvd.  Do you?

I asked if the dvd you are using worked on another computer

I asked if you went into BIOS and changed the boot order so that the DVD was first.
