Windows DVD Maker in Windows 8!

Does anybody knows what happen with Windows DVD Maker? I use to create beautiful DVD movies with my own videos in that software, I upgrade my Windows 7 last week and it is gone, do we need to move to another software provider? are you going to create an APP for Windows 8 with the same capabilities and free? Answer please!!!

Hi rafovillegas,

Thank you for giving us an opportunity to assist you.

It looks that you would like to burn movies in DVD in Windows 8. I will help you with issue.

Windows 8 has not included DVD Maker. However you can still burn DVD or CD in Windows 8. Please refer to the link given below to follow the steps.

If you want to burn an .ISO file then, you can right-click on .ISO files and select Burn disc image to burn an .ISO file.

Yeah I noted the same, I can make a movie though with Windows 8 I found there is no way to burn a DVD video straight out of the box.  I guess its the same as watching a DVD video from Windows 8 you cant even watch a DVD with the OS with out using a third party program like VLC or installing Windows Media Centre.

I installed Nero though there are other free burning packages out there, might have to look at one of those.  Ashampoo perhaps as a free alternative.

For me Windows 8 is like 1 step forwards 2 steps backwards.

Regards

Mark

Two DVD making apps I tested on Windows 8 are Pinnacle Studio and Sony Vegas DVD Architect... they worked fine.

Yes, Microsoft's Windows DVD Maker isn't included in Windows 8.... unless other apps are added by the computer manufacturer, you'll need to add it yourself.

I just finished using Movie Maker (great product) and was trying to figure out how to burn to DVD like I did on Windows 7.  I search around and am heart broke to find out Microsoft removed DVD Maker from Windows 8.  This is a very bad design Microsoft.  I had grown use to it in Windows 7 and even bragged to friends about Movie Maker, DVD Maker, and now it is gone.  I'm going to have to switch back to Windows 7, as I have some movies I have to finish up and send out to friends.

Please think about adding DVD Maker into Windows 8 you silly developers / bean counters.

I don't think you understand the problem PranavMishra5582.

Burning files to a dvd is not the same as making a DVD for the TV.

DVD Maker allowed us to make menus and apply screen art.  That is now gone.  I could burn a wmv or mp4 to a dvd no problem.  But it's just a file.  No menu and graphics for the person whom puts it in their DVD Player.

This has been very frustrating to discover why I was unable to burn movies from my new Windows 8 laptop. Burning a DVD from Movie Maker was one of the primary reasons I stayed with Microsoft rather than jumping over to the Apple operating system. I do not understand why you took this simple feature and deleted it. Why do people buy over priced Apple products? Because they are intuitive and they work. Windows 8 is anything but intuitive, and it does not seem to be working that well. After a month I have found my work flow in Windows 8 less efficient. Not pleased at all.

I don't understand how one of the most basic functionalities of using a computer was removed.    You wonder why people are moving to Mac?  Because they can do simple things on their computer like make a DVD that I can give to my Granddad to watch in his DVD player.  Simple. wtf. Don't make me buy a Mac.  I hate apple.  But I will if I have to. Stupid.

There are a number of threads with this issue.  All appear to be the same.
So let me get this straight:

a) UPGRADING to Windows 8 actually REMOVES the program "DVD Maker" that lots of people use.

b) The forum moderator can only answer questions to the ability of what they are told.  In this case the answer is basically: Yes, microsoft remove this important program but they don't know why.

c) The moderator recommends to use (PURCHASE) third party software.

d) The moderator is unable to give any specific recommendations.

e)  The users in these DVD Maker forums is unhappy and vents frustration at this issue.
Some bite the bullet and make a 3rd party purchase for Win 8,
Some downgrade to Win 7.
Some move to Apple.

In the meantime, it would be helpful if anyone has found a no-cost DVD maker equivalent that:
a) doesn't install malware,
b) doesn't change any microsoft or browser settings
c) doesn't add watermarks
d) has the same feature set as DVD Maker

Thanks and good luck!

I have Pinnacle Studio and Sony Vegas suites on my Windows 8 computer. Both installed and run fine without effecting other apps. They make movies and DVDs, and don't add watermarks.

They are not usually free but I got each suite for a penny each... when they were on special internet sales. They are not the latest models but work fine.
