|Windows defender seems to be blocking Mcafee.

When I open Mcafee all I get is a blank dialogue box. Have run malware scann and all is OK.  Also can't get into Mcafee online help on internet explorer which seems to be associated. Any thoughts on next steps?

May be uninstalling and reinstalling MCAFEE might help

Do not use two anti-virus protection , If you do your system may experience performance degradation and other problems caused by the conflict of two services providing real time protection simultaneously

Or Try Use system Restore to restore your  System

=================

1. Click "Start", type system restore in the Start Search box, and then click "System Restore" under the Programs section.

When you are prompted by the User Account Control feature, click "Continue".

2.Do one of the following

* If there is a recommended restore point, click Choose a different restore point, and then click Next.

* If there No recommended restore point listed , simply click Next to continue.

3.Select a restore point at which you know the operating system was working, and then click "Next".

5. On the Confirm your restore point page, click "Finish"

Good luck

Do you know when this problem began?  Try a System Restore to a point in timeBEFORE the problem began.  Here's the procedure:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/.  Be sure to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points.  If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two.  NOTE: You will have to re-install any software and updates you installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for the updates.  Use the recovery disk if the system prompt doesn’t work. The recovery disk works a bit different from the above procedures but if you follow the prompts from the System Restore menu option with the above information you should be able to restore with no problems.

I'm reasonably certain this isn't caused by Windows Defender as that is for anti-spyware and this doesn't appear to be that kind of problem (you can test this by deactivating Windows Defender and seeing if that clears up the problem - if not, then it isn't the cause and you can activate it again).  You need help from McAfee Technical Support at:http://service.mcafee.com/TechSupportHome.aspx?lc=1033&sg=TS.  Considerinng the alternatives, I would select the chat option (it seems the phone option costs money).  Explain the problem and listen to their suggestions.  If it were me, I would uninstall McAfee (using thee Removal Tool:http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/McAfee-Consumer-Product-Removal-Tool.shtml) and then re-install the product to see if that resolves the problem - but the McAfee people may have a simpler solution.

BTW, Windows Defender is an anti-spyware product, not an anti--virus product.  It can be safely used with McAfee.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!
