Windows 8.1 sound driver not working

I updated my Gateway ZX6971 model from Windows 8 to 8.1 (it originally had windows 7 installed). Since upgrading, I no longer have any sound and I cannot play videos on the internet in any browser. My drivers are all up to date.

Hi,

Does the issue persist when you play local videos and audios?

I have searched for the Windows 8.1 drivers for your model, currently they are not available.  I would suggest you to follow the steps provided below:

Method 1: Run the Audio troubleshooters.

Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter:

a.       Press Windows key + C on your keyboard to show the Charms bar.

b.      Type Troubleshooting and click Troubleshooting under Settings.

c.       Now click on Hardware and Sound.

d.      Run the Play audio troubleshooter and follow the prompts. Once this is done, restart the computer and check the status.

If the issue still persists, let’s uninstall both sound and video card drivers. Let Windows load default drivers.

Method 2:

Press Windows key + R, type devmgmt.msc in the run prompt, hit Enter.

Expand the Sound, video and game controllers, right-click the sound card, click uninstall.

Similarly, expand the Display adapters, right-click the display card listed, click uninstall

Restart the computer, let Windows detect the driver and install by itself.

Now check if you can play the videos, audio files.

If the issue still persists, continue to the next method.

Method 3: Visit the Gateway website, download the VGA, sound drivers and install them in compatibility mode.

I as well am having much the same problem. I have even tried restoring my PC to a precious date. But when I do that it comes up with the error, (windows was unable to complete restoration) and when I try opening certain places like control panel the screen freezes and I have to refresh home with ctrl+alt+del and open task manager. I tried going the bios to restore my computer by starting my disk  drive first and found that instead of opening bios esc opened something calls docc. My main loading screen when the computer is first turned on now says that F12 opens bios, but when I try that it again takes me to docc with the option of pressing F12 for bios again, when I do this it requires a password which has never occurred beforehand. These ways are all of the known fixes to Audio. The option to refresh audio through "manage devices" says that the Audio button is a duplicate. and every 3 days I have to open command prompt as an administrator and reset my browser then restart  my computer for the reset to take effect. These problems are reoccurring for friends as well as family using windows 8.1 as well as 8. Is there any way to repair this? if yes I would greatly appreciate it. This computer is custom build, I don't have the money to replace or repair my sound card. I would hope that there is a remedy.

I'm having the same problem with my audio since the Windows 8.1 upgrade. Is there a Microsoft help line we can call for support? My speakers/audio were working fine before the 8.1 update.  Please help!

I have an HP Envy Notebook PC.  The Windows 8.1 update was recently done on my PC and since then, I have no sound.  Can you help me troubleshoot and fix this? Thanks!
