Windows 8.1 Pro upgrade to Windows 10 now requesting activation

Hi All,

I recently (ie about a week ago) upgraded my PC from windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10, where I used a windows software tool to conduct the upgrade. At no point did the tool request any activation or even require that I input my product code. The update went great, no problems.

The problem I have now is only recently after completing the upgrade ( and also a few days after the update was already complete) did I see a notification saying that I need to activate my windows. The product key I have ( from a sticker on the PC) is for windows 8.1 Pro. When I run the trouble shooting tool or even if I enter the product key manually it says the product code is not valid with error code 0x803FA067

I was really under the impression that considering the tool completed the upgrade, that this would be for free and I wouldn't have any activation issues however now it appears as though I need to by a license which I can't afford. Do I need to downgrade back to windows 8.1 or is there someone I can speak to activate /upgrade my current license?

The free upgrade period from Windows 7 or 8 to Windows 10 was 2015 to 2016 so being able to use the licence is long gone.

You will need a new licence. Microsoft do not allow of Windows 10 using a Windows 7 or 8 licence any longer. I their words they have closed the loophole.
