Windows 8 - Media Center DisplayPort HDCP support nonexistent

This feedback was provided under Windows 7, however action has not been taken to correct this issue for Windows 8 either.

ERROR:
Display driver error – the video playback device does not support playback of protected content.

ISSUE:

Media Center with a CableCard tuner doesn't work at all on DisplayPort, because DisplayPort is not detected as HDCP compliant by Media Center. CableLabs Certifited DisplayPort as HDCP compliant but Media Center still hasn't been updated and it still thinks that it's not compliant.

REQUEST:

Requesting Microsoft to produce a patch so that DisplayPort is detected as HDCP compliant by Media Center.

I second this request.  Please update WMC8 to allow video playback on my internal DisplayPort monitor (Dell XPS One 27).  I paid $69 to buy the Windows 8 ProPack so I could watch television through WMC through my cablecard tuner, but it is effectively worthless insofar as I can only view local channels that are marked "copy freely."  Please take care of your customers, Microsoft!

Yes, please do fix this AND especially in the case of an the internal display in MacBook Pro laptops which are HDCP compliant but not recognized as such by Windows.

In my configuration, Windows Media Center for Windows 8 is unable to function at all in my Windows 8 Bootcamp partition of my MacBook Pro 15/Retina hardware when the laptop's internal screen is the [only] active one.  It makes no sense to me that it won't recognize this HDCP-capable internal screen.  The bug needs to be fixed.

+1

Tired of not being able to watch TV w/ my AMD 7950 on one of my side monitors which use display port.

Fix your software MS. We paid good money for either Windows 8 or the addon pack, and would like it working like it is supposed to. Soon as there is another OS that supports cablecard you'll be losing lots of people if you continue to abandon your product like this.

Bought a AMD Firepro v7900 + windows 8 Media Center + Silicondust Prime + Adobe stuff to do video editing.  Really surprised that Media Center won't support displayport.  Hard to believe Microsoft is the weak link with all their resources.  I can't imagine this taking a software engineer more than an hour to fix.

Can you confirm you had this working for copy-once programming?

MS please fix this issue. It has been years since it was reported (in W7) and you have completely ignored it.  I would upgrade to W8 for this one feature alone.

same problem. I really wish Microsoft actually cared about it's customers. If any signs of other alternative programs with easy setup. I will jump at it if microsoft doesn't fix this problem.

Please add this patch to Windows 7 and Windows 8 WMC.  This issue will continue to compound as the average display resolution increases.  A lot of video cards will include a displayport and a dual link dvi output to achieve the ability to power two displays above 1920x1200 (2560x1440 for example).  It is downright silly that you can use WMC for playback on the monitor that is attached to the computer with DVI-D but you can't use WMC for playback on the monitor that is attached with displayport when both the monitor and the output protocol are certified HDCP compliant.

If this continues to be an issue I will be moving away from WMC completely and taking everybody I can with me.
