Windows 7 USB creation tool

Am i correct in saying Windows 7 USB creation tool only validates ISO image files by UDF spec only?

I'm referring to the error "selected ISO file is not a valid ISO file" Even when downloading from a legit source, i know the image is not corrupted, and works fine..

Is this deliberate?  It would make sense since this is a "Windows 7 creation tool" designed for Windows 7 images only,

Hi,

I'm not really sure about your question, but the tool actually creates Flash Drives for Windows 8 and 10 as well...

Are you sure it is actually a ISO file, and not something that has been extracted or something ?

I have never encountered this using legitimate ISO's..

BTW... there is a free tool called RUFUS that will create a flash drive from a ISO...

It does not install... just runs from memory...

What is your "legit source" so somebody can download an ISO and see for themselves?

How do you know the image is not corrupted?

How do you know the image "works fine"?

A popular free bootable USB creation tool is rufus which you can download from here (nothing to install):

https://rufus.ie/

A popular place to download ISOs is here:

Microsoft Windows and Office ISO Download Tool

I have some on my Google drive here:

A Google search of the error message reveals several potential "solutions" none of which I have tried because I know all my ISO files are valid and have never had a problem with them and have never actually seen that error but you can check some of them out:

Legit source: https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?productId=352&downloadGroup=ESXI550

(requires VMWare account to download)

Also : https://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html

I know the "fix" is to edit  image in image editor like PowerISO, UltraISO etc.. and select "UDF" and save, but my question was regarding the took is "designed" to create Windows 7 disc from Windows 7 image, which is gonna be is the newer UDF flle system...

This would explain why DOS based images which are NOT UDF fail with this tool... Example below:

Image

I already have Rufus for creating USB, but this is specially to do with Microsoft tool..

I know this because all the sources i got worked just for me... In the first link of EXSI5.5 as an example, that too failed from VMWare legit source as above link..

It wasn't until i edited the image and "added" UDF file system, did MS took pick it up.. I just wanted clarrification this is actually correct, since it is only a Windows tool,, not an all purpose tool.

I can't comment on the MS media creation tool.

Never used it, never will.

With these new details maybe some others will have some ideas.
