Windows 7 (no service pack) will not update, and kb3138612 is not compatible.

So I just installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Home Premium, and I tried to update it. It failed with error code "80072EFE", which according to people online means that the update client was outdated. I tried installing KB3138612, but it said it wasn't compatible with the system. I check about computer, and it never mentioned Service Pack 1. Now i'm stuck.

Connect to a network and download the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 update here. You will not need a new browser to visit this webpage; it works on Internet Explorer 7 and newer. Windows 7 comes with Internet Explorer 8.

Never use temporary band-aid solutions. Use a shovel to dig out the fix to your problem.

The Microsoft Update Catalog requires TLS 1.2 enabled in the browser. Select "Use TLS 1.2" in advanced Internet Options (if available).
