Windows 11—Jumplist not showing up when app windows are snapped to layouts

When programs are arranged in layouts, jumplist and some windows remain on top of each other. The active window remains behind inactive windows; so as jumplists.

Hi Taylor Devin,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

It looks like the jumplist not showing up when app windows are snapped to layouts on your Windows 11. Sorry to hear this. Does this happen to all apps? Kindly try the methods below to check and repair.

  1. Check the settings.

Open Settings > Personalization > Start > Turn On the switch against Show recently opened items in Start, Jump Lists, and File Explorer.

  2. Rebuild the jump list if the problem is still there.

Open File Explorer and navigate to this folder: %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations > Here you may see a file named1b4dd67f29cb1962.automaticDestinations-ms. Delete it. > If you do not see this file, simply delete all the automaticDestinations-ms files you see here. This will however clear the Jump List history for all your programs. > Restart your device and then check the effect.

Feel free to keep me informed.

Best regards

The jumplist is present. It's just that active windows stays on top of the jumplist when windows are snapped to layouts.

The jumplist should always be on top of anything.

Hi Taylor Devin,

Thanks for your update. You can try to Disable the jump list from the settings as stated in my first post and then enable it. If the problem is still there, we can troubleshoot further with the solutions below.

1. Temporarily close the third-party security programs and optimization software that may exist under the system (with firewall nature), and perform a clean boot on your system: Press and hold Windows+R -- Enter msconfig – Hit Enter -- Click on Services -- Check to hide Microsoft services -- Click Disable All -- Reboot the device, and confirm if the problem solved.

2. Press and hold Windows+X to run Windows PowerShell (Administrator) and run the following commands respectively in sequence:

sfc/SCANNOW

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image

DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Allow the process to finish and see if it solves any problems. Restart the device later.

3. Perform an in-place upgrade of your Windows 11.

  • Go to the Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)> Click Download now.

  • After the downloading process ends completely, click the tool to run it. > Agree > Select the Upgrade this PC Now option > Next > After downloading, you need to choose to keep your personal files or start fresh. > Your computer will restart several times. > After that, log into Windows 11 and make the needed settings.

Note:

  1. Leave 20-25G space on your system disk to perform this.

  2. It is recommended to back your files up to avoid unnecessary data loss before performing this.
