I have spent a lot of time and effort tagging photos - How can I see this information on my new windows 11 computer?

Hi Bridget,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Did you previously have the old Windows Photo Gallery installed on Windows 10 before you upgraded to Windows 10?

If you did, right click an image in File Explorer, then click 'More Options on the context menu, do you see the option to open with Windows Live Photo Gallery on the extended menu?

Hi Bridget

A new laptop will not have the old Windows Live Photo Gallery application, that was deprecated by Microsoft in 2012.

On your Start Menu, you should see the new Photos App, which is used for managing your photos in Windows 11.

Alternatively, you could try to find an installer for Windows Live Essentials 2012 and see if that will install into Windows 11.

Hi Bridget

Okay, that must not be compatible with Windows 11, Microsoft have finally blocked it.

You will then need to use the new Photos app in Windows 11, or find another free photo manager app, that suits your needs

I've tried the new photos app that windows supplies but it is not half as good as it was and all my old tags are no longer visable. It is not really a very good product compared to what it was.

Can you suggest a product that is compatable/similar to the old windows live gallery

Hi Bridget,

Adobe Bridge is the best image managements software available, and as far as I know, it is free.

Windows live photo gallery had the ability to tag and recognise faces. You could then search on tagged people. It was also incredibly easy to sort by date taken and narrate pictures, and viewing the tags/narratives was very good.

I have spent years building up a database which has been completely lost.
