Windows 11 update not working (2022-02 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5010414))

I bought my PC in November 2021. Updated it whenever notifications came up.

I'm trying to update, but the downloading is frozen at 39%. See photo below. It has been like this for 2 days, and I've left the computer alone for hours at a time thinking it might just be running slow. My OS harddrive has over 130GB remaining so I imagine it isn't storage.

Last three successful updates in backwards order:

  • 2022-02 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 11 for x64 (KB5010474) (Feb 2022)

  • 2022-01 Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB4023057) (Feb 2022)

  • 2021-11 Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5008295) (November 2021)

Please advise. I don't want to rely on third party sites/videos.

HI Sohaib. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

You can install the Updates that fail to install manually and sometimes this will fix Updates, too. Failed updates should be logged at Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Installed Update History, and then search for those to download and install from this Catalog: https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search...

Some Updates will sort themselves out in a few days. If not or they are bothering you then here are steps you can take:

1) Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter from Windows Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.

2) Type Services in Search box, run Services app as Administrator, open Windows Update Service and Background Intelligent Transfer Service and Stop both.

Press “Windows (flag) key + R,” copy and paste C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\ press the Enter button.
This folder has all the files related to Windows updates.
Open the “Download” folder, select and delete all the files.

Restart Windows Update and Background Intelligent Transfer services in Services app by opening both and choosing Start.

3) If that fails try manually resetting Windows Update Service with the commands here:

4) Try these latest fixes for Updates not installing in Windows 11:

5) If they continue to fail and interfere, then you can block them using one of these methods: https://www.droidwin.com/how-to-stop-only-a-spe...

7) Run Windows 11 System File Checker/DISM in WIndows 11:

8) If that doesn't fix it then you can do a Windows 11 Repair Upgrade: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/repair-install-wi...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions. Please report back results for all steps given so I know what else to suggest if necessary.
