Windows 11 Update error - Install error - 0x800700c1

Hello,

I am trying to update to Windows 11, version 24H2, but I am getting an Install error - 0x800700c1 when trying to update.

My current Windows 11 version is Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3958).

I have tried a simple restart, running Windows Update Troubleshooter, and the repair update, but the update still fails. I tried an in-place upgrade, but that also failed.

I tried running dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth in CMD prompt, but I get "Error: 0x800f081f

The source files could not be found. Use the "Source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location, see https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=243077.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log"

I also cannot run sfc /scannow, I get "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service."

Is there any other way I can try to fix this update error?

Answer

Hello,

let us fix the problem.

Download SFCFix.exe and save it on your Desktop.

Download the SFCFix.zip Package and save it on your desktop too.

Please do not unpack the zip package.

When done, drag the SFCFix.zip Package over the SFCFix.exe Tool and let it drop on the tool.

See the GiF as example:

The SFCFix Tool starts and then you see this question:

Answer the question with n for no.

Then wait until the tool has finished its work.

You will see this as a Notepad window opens with a log with the Name: SFCFix.txt.

Close the Notepad and then copy the SFCFix.txt file from your desktop on your OneDrive and share the link here.

Greetings
