Windows 11 Update Error 0x800f0982 - KB5051987 (Previously Installed, Looping Failure)

Dear Microsoft Support,

I am experiencing a persistent issue with Windows Update on my Windows 11 (Version 24H2) system. The cumulative update KB5051987 (2025-02 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64 based Systems) is failing to install with error code 0x800f0982, even though it was previously installed successfully.

Problem Details:

  • The update KB5051987 was previously installed successfully, but Windows Update repeatedly attempts to reinstall it.

  • The installation fails with the error code 0x800f0982.

  • I am unable to pause updates due to the system indicating this is an important security update.

Troubleshooting Steps Already Taken:

I have already performed the following troubleshooting steps without success:

  • Cleared the Windows Update cache.

  • Restarted the Windows Update service.

  • Run the Windows Update troubleshooter.

  • Performed an SFC /scannow scan.(And the scan showed no signs of corruption or error)

  • Performed a DISM health check (DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth).(Everything was healthy)

System Information:

  • Operating System: Windows 11 Version 24H2

  • Error Code: 0x800f0982

  • Update: KB5051987

Here's some screenshots:

I am seeking assistance to resolve this issue and prevent the update from repeatedly failing. It is crucial to note that this update was previously installed successfully, and I am unsure why it is attempting to reinstall and failing. Please advise on further troubleshooting steps or provide a solution to this problem.

Thank you for your time and assistance.
