Windows 11 Start Menu does not open

I have tried almost everything to fix this issue. The Windows key works, but the start menu won't open. I also tried using the CTRL + ESC shortcut.

Please do not tell me to run chkdsk nor sfc, I have tried this already (and numerous times). I tried updating my graphics card, removing updates, editing the registry and a lot more steps. Nothing seems to work, and this is the second computer (running Windows 11) that I have to deal with. I am not going to wipe my drive and reinstall any OS again. Is there any other fix that is "guaranteed" to work? I'm disappointed that this issue has been around for a year, and that it still exists and causes problems.

Hi m4tts,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Click your Start Button, then just type powershell and from the resulting menu, right click PowerShell and select 'Run as Administrator'

Paste this command into PowerShell and press Enter;

Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.ShellExperienceHost | reset-AppxPackage

When that command completes, paste this command into PowerShell and press Enter;

Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.StartMenuExperienceHost | reset-AppxPackage

When that command competes, close PowerShell and restart (not shut down) your PC.

Thank you for the immediate reply! I think you meant WIN + R... since I can't exactly open the search menu... Otherwise I had done exactly what you said and restarted the computer with no luck.

Unfortunately it did not work for me. I also restarted the computer after putting in the command in PowerShell and still had no luck. Thanks, though.

These problems happened spontaneously. It started with the UI slowing down and being unresponsive, and after restarting my computer(s) the problem came to be, and are permanent. I tried rolling back updates anyway and it didn't seem to do the trick either.

Hi m4tts,

I those commands did not resolve the problem, then the best option is to perform an in-place repair of Windows 11 with the Windows ISO, rest assured, this is just a repair, it is like an update, it is not an installation and your files, settings and applications will remain untouched.

Click this link:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...
to download the Windows 11 ISO

When the ISO file completes downloading

Disconnect from the Internet

Temporarily disable any 3rd party Anti-virus you may have installed

Then, in Windows File Explorer, double click the ISO and then run Setup.exe and select the upgrade option.
