Windows 11: second monitor turned standby and won't turn on

I am working from a newly built computer which is connected to 2 monitors (MSI Optix G241 23.8" 1920 x 1080 144 Hz) through Display Port, and an attached 3rd TV (SAMSUNG) screen through HDMI, which is mostly not activated/in use. These are all connected to my graphics card (MSI MECH 2X OC Radeon RX 6650 XT 8 GB). I have been running a 2-3 monitor set up for many years without issues, and even after constructing the new computer it worked perfectly fine, for a while, until..

My second monitor has turned to Standby mode (I assume this happened after the screen went into sleep mode), and won't re-activate.

When turning the monitor off (from Standby) and on again, it stays black for a while after which it says "DP No Signal" and turns back to Standby mode.

I've attempted the following:

  1. Recently bought a new Display Port cable to connect to my graphics card (I thought it was the cable, but it shouldn't be?). This cable seemed to work fine.

    1. I needed a new cable to connect to my new graphics card. This was before the issue revealed.

    2. The functioning monitor runs on a different cable.

  2. Turn the monitor off and on again.

    1. I have tried

turning off the screen and disconnecting the power source for 30+ seconds.

  3. Restarted the computer.

  4. Checked the BIOS settings, could not find any solution (but tips are welcome).

  5. Switched the DP ports of the monitors on the graphics card, this let the second screen start up and work for a while, until it went into sleep mode again.

  6. Fiddled with AMD Software: Adrenaline Edition (v23.12.1), but haven't found a solution there (but tips are welcome).

  7. Uninstalled the monitor and display drivers.

  8. I have reset the factory settings via the screen menu.

    1. I have tried

setting the Input Source to DP instead of HDMI turns the screen black (but turned on) again, after a some seconds it resets back to HDMI.

  9. I have connected it through an HDMI port on the monitor, to my HDMI connection on the graphics card, however this is normally used by my TV, so not a permanent solution. However, the screen appears the function fine via HDMI.

I am running Windows 11, and have ran my Windows Updates.

I am not sure on how to resolve this issue, please help!

If any additional information is required, please let me know!

Hello,rvddesign

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft community.

Understanding your issue, this is an inherent problem in the use of the DP interface and cannot be fully resolved at this time. This issue involves the operating logic of third-party hardware, and we do not have access or permission to obtain additional private information. We recommend that you consider switching to an HDMI port to connect your device, which may be the best solution at this time.

If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us. We wish you all the best!

Hello Rota Ye,

Thank you for your response.

That's very unfortunate to hear, and a big problem to many users I can only imagine.

Could you provide me with more information on how:

  • /why it's caused

  • we, as users, can prevent this from happening (would disabling screens to turn off work?)

  • we can reset configuration to make our screens work again

I expect there are some troubleshooting/solutions for this issue?

I would also like to know more about what is expected in terms of fixes from Microsoft's side, and on what term.

Or is using a (double) Display Port set-up simply not viable?

I have invested into a specific graphic cards supporting multiple Display Ports, as well as DP cables which became quite useless now.

Hello,rvddesign

This is a DP protocol issue, if you need to fix this issue completely you need to wait for a new protocol to fix them.

I am using HDMI connectors and still having this problem. It just started happening, have checked all connections, etc. This is pretty major and hard to believe MSFT just shrugs their shoulders.
