If your PC is Windows 11 compatible, you can go ahead and update to Windows 11 using the Installation Assistant on the link below, the upgrade is painless, your personal files, settings and installed software will not be touched.

My apologies, I should have made it clear I want to move from a current Windows 10 desktop to a new Windows 11 desktop. Two different machines, the old one running Windows 10, the new one running Windows 11. Would be nice not to have to reinstall all the apps currently running on the Windows 10 machine.

Hello Derek,

If you are using an online Microsoft Account and use the same account on the New Laptop when you first log in than most of your settings and files will indeed carry over to the new system providing that you have sync enabled on your windows 10 device.

Hi, I have an old desktop with Windows 10 and a laptop which is partially synced to it. I have a new windows 11 desktop to replace my old desktop. Is there any guides to tell me the best way of going about the transfer of everything on old desktop to new desktop? I have already logged in on the new desktop when the old one was switched off. Can I redo the initial login in order to sync or is there another way? There are a number of software packages advertised to do this sort of thing, but I am concerned as to their pedigree and possibility of viruses.

The only thing that you can transfer from your old computer to your new computer is your own personal files. Applications have to be re-installed and Windows settings have to be redone.

For help with moving your personal files, and tips for making it go faster, just ask and I'll gladly help you.
