Windows 11 - Microphone not working (since update maybe?)

Hello,

I do have an issue with my built in microphone. And none of the online solutions seem to help me. It is having problems picking up any sounds, every 10 minutes or so it can pick up about 3 seconds of sound and then it is gone.

I did notice that the problem only occured after I have updated for 2022-03 Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB4023057), but that might just be a coincidence? I have not found anyone else sharing the same issue after the update. The laptop is not even 5 months old and is an ASUS - VivoBook F515EA 15.6" Laptop - Intel® Core™ i3, 256 GB SSD, therefore the laptop shouldnt be the issue. This issue persists with any application I am using, no matter if it is in web browser, microsoft team or skype..

Following things I have tried:

Enabling it in the device manager

Recording audio Troubleshooting

Enabling Windows to use this device for audio

Checking privacy setting under privacy microphone

checked the right microphone is set as default

Everything seemed to be okay when trying these mentioned things, nothing was set as ordinary and nothing could be found when troubleshooting.

I am using my laptop every day for work and have several meetings, therefore this issue is more than frustrating as I always have to log into meetings with my phone as well.

I appreciate any help.

Kind Regards

Try uninstall your Audio driver and restart your PC and run the Windows Update and let it download the driver.

I am experiencing the same problem. Updated to Windows 11 and now my internal microphone is not functioning. Will now only function when a device is plugged in.

I am having this same issue since a Windows Update on 29 June(2022-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5014668)), external mics are working perfectly fine in all apps but internal mic isnt. Internal mic is working in chrome, settings(the bar moves in sound settings) but its not working in voice recorder.

Did you find any fix?

I had the same issue... and I rolled back. It began to work again.

Today (16/07/202022), it is updated with the 2022-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5015814) - (maybe a higher version), it did exactly the same - made the microphones unfunctional. The microphone works only with earplugs but not without them. It must be got to do with the cumulative update... an expert can look into it and help us resolve the issue. I am not going to roll back, but continue with earplugs...however, it is painful for longer use with plugs on, especially, for a teacher.

I solved the problem after a big struggle. I googled and from Intel, I downloaded the high definition Realtek audio and it deleted everything from the sound system and installed Intel drivers & support assistant. Then I went on to settings and clicked windows update. It reinstalled a number of files on the sound system and it began to function perfectly.

I do not know what was wrong after the update - but this is how it worked.

With gratitude and love,

Saamdu

In my case realtek driver was the main cause, i don't know why the audio driver restricting my mic from working - so what i did is i stopped Realtek driver forcefully from being install/update( By using the software display driver uninstaller(DDU)) after unistalling from my PC and this is the only soultion worked for me now i am using my windows without audio driver from many days, no issue faced by me. Everything working fine now !

Thank you for this. I have a Dell Latitude 7320 with Win 11, same issue, no sound, uninstalling Realtek drivers seems to solve the problem.

Seems that now the mini jack output does not detect a headset, so I'm going to see if a previous version of the Realtek audio drivers work. Thanks for the help.

GIGABYTE

Well, I didn't check the cleaning CMOS till now ! I will update if cleaning the CMOS works!
