Windows 11 Media Player Not Showing Artist Art

Hello!

I have been using the new Media Player in Windows 11.

There were a lot of problems with it, but now as of 7.3.2023, most problems have been fixed.

Still, there is an issue which has not been resolved for me yet.

The Artists artwork is not showing at all.

Does any of you have similar issue?

Hello MarkosMevorah, welcome to the Microsoft community, I'll be happy to help you today;

I understand that artist artwork is not showing up in the new media player in Windows 11;

In this case you can try to update the album information;

Open Media Player;
Click Music Library;
Click Some;
Click with the right mouse button on the Album and select Edit information;
Click Update album information online;
Select the album art you want to display and click Save;

Hope this helps, see you soon!

As I understand MarkosMevorah, it's the Artist Pictures which don't show, not the Album pictures.

Lots of artist have no picture, and in my humble opinion the best way to deal with it, would be to let users edit these pictures locally.

Same issue here, I am tired of waiting for Microsoft to implement this feature, this issue has been present ever since the Groove player which was introduced with Windows 10........

I think it's useful to remind them of the situation, since Groove is now know as the new Media Player for Windows.

It's one of the thing which let me stick to the old Windows Media Player.

I'm having the same issue but the problem for me is when I upload music to my library that does not have art then I add my own art. the art that I add does not display.

Sometimes I can remove the music from the Music folder and let Media Player remove the album from it's library then re-add the music back and the art will show but this has only worked a couple times.

If I add music that I've purchased then the album art always shows. Again, this is only happening on Music that I create and add to the music library.

If i take that same music file and load it on my phone, the album art shows. This has been happening on Windows 10 as well or anywhere that the new Windows Media player has updated to version11.2305

Yes! Well explained!

I have my own library with CURATED artworks for all music in local disk. In all devices works perfectly but... Windows 11 Media Player shows empty album art for some albums... 50% of albums... while ALL of THEM have covers embedded! Just WHY?

I dont want to use "online" album art, because it confuses albums and artists, so I took the time to embed all cover art!

Dear Microsoft, It's so DIFFICULT to fix that once for good? Are you doing that on purpose? No matter how we try, Microsoft seems always blind and deaf!

The original subject was about artist art. If you have an issue with album art, I suggest to start a new question.

Artist art vanished the day Microsoft got out of the music business. Remember, Groove used to be a music store, like Windows Media Player before it. As such, it had robust links to commercial databases of artist and album art as part of the licensing to sell songs. Then MS shuttered the store and the artist art vanished. You'd think our existing album art would be fine, but as everyone knows, it's not. On my desktop I see 100% album art; on my laptop, about 33%. Same files!

"Update album info online" finds track names reliably but hardly ever finds album art. You just see a bunch of gray placeholders. And this is for popular, well-known, current albums. Luckily, art we embed ourselves shows up EVERYWHERE except Media Player.

In my particular case, I found the solution.

My music is inside a folder in OneDrive; the problem was, some folders were not completely "offline" (I'm not sure how), but some folders showed this icon like this:

So, to fix album art problem (again in my case), I just select all folders and make them "available offline" like this:

After that, I reset Windows Media App and did all steps again (added the OneDrive "Music by me" folder) and all cover art started to show perfect.
