windows 11 lock screen slideshow literally wont work

so basically i've got a folder of about 14 pictures that i want to run as a slideshow on my lock screen but it only shows one particular photo and says "you need more than one picture to show in your slideshow".

i'm not very good with computers but i did some research on the common solutions to no avail so here's what i've tried:

- unchecked "only use pictures that fit my screen"

- changed the power options settings in the control panel (desktop background settings > slideshow > on batteryavailable)
- checked indexing options, .jpg, .jpeg and .png files all selected
- group policy doesn't apply and wont work since i'm the only one who uses this laptop
- i've checked the registry editor HOWEVER, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows i actually don't have a personalisation folder and i'm not sure how to fix that

i would really appreciate some advice cause i have no idea what i'm doing and this is really frustrating :(

Hi allyssa caruana-forbes,

Thanks for your post in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you have encountered the problem that when Windows sets the lock screen as a slide show, the slide show does not work properly.

I'm testing on three devices running Windows 11 based on your question, I'm not sure if we're having the same problem.

This is the problem I encountered when testing, when I add the folder, I can't see the pictures in the folder, which means that Windows does not detect the existence of the picture.

I added several .jpg files to the folder as well as several .png files, but none of these files are recognized. Windows recognizes these files when I set the lock screen to "Pictures".

Then I go to the background settings, still can't detect the picture when set to slideshow, when set to picture, windows can detect the picture.

This means that when the lock screen or Windows background is set as a slideshow, Windows cannot properly detect your saved pictures. You can check on your computer to see if Windows recognizes your picture.

If your problem is also because the image cannot be recognized, then the problem may be due to a bug in the current version of Windows.

The version of the devices I tested is 22000.556, you can check if it is the same as mine. If it's the same, then my guess is most likely correct.

We look forward to your response.

Hi Kirk,

Thank you for your response! Yeah that's exactly my issue. All individual pictures will display when I select them as a "picture" but not in the slideshow, and my device is also 22000.556.

Now we can confirm that this is a Windows version causing the problem. We may need to wait for subsequent fix pushes.

You're joking, right? A simple search on the net shows that this has been an issue since at least 2017. I've never seen it actually work in any version of Windows 10 or 11. This is not a "Windows version causing the problem". This is a feature that has never worked.

In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

I first had this problem in 2015 as usual Microsoft don't know how to fix it too many lawyers not enough coders none of the multiple solutions offered on the web work. I think it is by design how else are MS going to get people to notice their sad browser integration?. It won't wok like you want.

Hello,

I am using windows version 22000.795, had the same problem, apparently... no answer yet on the internet.
So I try a few things, and here is what is working. Take all your pictures, and change their width to 3840 and height lower to 5760.

I had one folder where the photo guy gave me high quality pictures, width>3840 and height>5760.
I use photoshop to reduce size to ratio, keeping everything under 3840.

THEN IT FAKING WORKED.

By doing so, also reduced file size to less than 20MB. So there must be a size limit for the lockscreen. Just nobody knows.

LOL

Hope it can fix for you~
Also, windows should allow us to position the clock somewhere else on the lockscreen rather than DEAD CENTER.

Its PERSONALIZATION, yet... I CANT CHOOSE WHERE TO PUT MY CLOCK...

I found a way to get the slide show to work. When I went to add folders to the slide show, it opened the picture libraries instead of the actual folder. At first, I went to the folder and added it but it didn't appear. Then I went and added several folders in the picture libraires, and what do you know, the slide show went on. Try this and see if it works for you.

It is build specific. Has busted on varying differing builds, both insider specific and not unfortunately. But if it's never worked for you on any build of 11 or even 10, then you have a whole other issue going on. It has worked more often than it hasn't.
