Windows 11: Internet working on web browsing, however applications (e.g: Discord, Steam, etc...) sometimes disconnects.

Greetings Microsoft Community,

I have been dealing with the issue of my internet working completely fine for web browsing and also for desktop applications like Discord, Steam, Riot Games, Spotify, etc..., but sometimes the desktop applications tend to disconnect from the internet (despite working completely fine for web browsing... hope that makes sense).

This is my Windows 11 specifications if needed:

Edition Windows 11 Home

Version 23H2

Installed on ‎1/‎1/‎2023

OS build 22631.3527

Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1003.0

Solutions that I have tried:

- I am using a stable ethernet cable, tried reconnecting the cable countless times from the router, and seems to find the same problem.

- I have used troubleshooter tool to troubleshoot my internet, Windows does not seem to find any errors.

- I have tried doing Command Prompt (Administrator) with the following commands:

netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset
netsh winhttp reset proxy
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns

Source

- I have called the ISP(Internet Service Provider) to check if its their server, and apparently they've been consistently been working fine for the past months. No errors at their end.

Thank you for your help!

Hi, Carlsen Angelo Pol

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

We understand that you have encountered the problem that the desktop application will be disconnected from the network, and we suggest that you try the following scheme:

I. update the network card driver

1. In the search box on the taskbar, type Device Manager, and then select Device Manager from the result list.

2. in device manager, select network adapter > network adapter name.

3. right-click the network adapter and select update driver software > automatically search for updated driver software. Follow the steps and select Close. Restart the computer to confirm whether the problem is solved.

If Windows can't update the network card driver, you can log in to the brand machine official website through another networked computer, find the corresponding machine model, download the driver installation package, and copy it to the current computer for manual installation.

II. Reset network settings

Click the windows+R key, enter inetcpl.cpl, open Internet options, click Advanced, and check "Use SSL 3.0", "Use TLS 1.0", "Use TLS 1.1" and "Use TLS 1.2", and restart the computer after application to see if the problem can be solved.

III. Reset proxy settings

Click the windows+R key, enter inetcpl.cpl, open the Internet option, click Connect, click LAN Settings, and see if the proxy server column is checked. If so, please uncheck it, and click OK to restart the computer after application to see if the problem can be solved.

IV. reset the network

1. Select the Start button, and then select Settings > Network and Internet > Status > Network Reset.

2. on the network reset screen, select reset now > yes to confirm.

Wait for the computer to restart and see if this solves the problem.

If the problem still exists, please enter "ipconfig /all" in CMD and send us a screenshot of the network information.

Sincerely

Hi, Carlsen Angelo Pol

Thank you for your reply!

From your feedback on the network information, there is no problem, we suggest you can try to manually change to Google's DNS address:

Change the preferred dns

netsh interface ip set dns local connection static 8.8.8.8

Change the alternate dns

netsh interface ip add dns local connection 8.8.4.4

You can also go to your motherboard manufacturer to update the NIC driver for your device model.

You can also go to the root directory of the software you are using, such as Discord and Steam, and look for the log files (.log) in the root directory, which will record the data when the software crashes while disconnected, and send these log files to us, and we will analyze whether it is caused by the Windows system or by a network failure.

Sincerely
