Windows 11 import photos by date

In Windows 11 How do I import photos from Nikon Camera to the PC like in Windows 10? I want to see the to be imported photos in folders by date then get imported to hardrive in folders by date automatically.

I tried using the new version of Photos app but it does not due that. Photo Legacy seems to stop import search midway and shut down.

Thanks for any help SLK.

Hi steven Kaplan.

Thank you for reaching out here in the Microsoft Community.

In your description you used to be able to import pictures into your computer by date, which you cannot do in Windows 11.

I note that you tried to use Photos Legacy, and I appreciate your efforts and attempts to resolve this issue, and I do understand the frustration and inconvenience of not being able to import photos at this time as you once could.

Generally speaking, Photos Legacy should be the same app as the one you're using in Windows 10.

Let's start by making some attempts against it.

Please right-click on the Start button, select Settings > Apps > Installed apps, then find Photos Legacy and uninstall it.

Then refer to the link below to try to add it back to your computer.

What is Photos Legacy? - Microsoft Support

If the problem still persists, in order to determine if it is related to an account profile error, please create a new local administrator account by referring to the following link

Manage user accounts in Windows - Microsoft Support

See if the same problem exists in the new local account.

If the problem still exists in the new local account, you can try using an older version of Photos.

Below I will provide you with a thread where users are experiencing problems with Paint 3D. In a reply from one of the volunteer moderators, a link was provided where you can download an older version of the Windows app. You can try to download an older version of Photos through this link.

How do I add Paint 3D to the open with menu choices in Windows - Microsoft Community

After going to the download link, select the URL on the left side and then search for it by typing the following on the right side

https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9wzdncrfjbh4

In the search, try to find the correct installer for Windows 11, with a name that usually includes “_x64_” and a size of several MB (not KB).

See if an older version of Photos can help.

If none of the above steps help you, then it's possible that some current Windows products can't import pictures from other devices by date as they did before.

We suggest you try to find and use some other third-party software or tools to help you import pictures.

In addition, we apologize for any inconvenience caused by the changes to Photos. We are not part of Microsoft's development team, but we can try to make some efforts to bring this issue to the attention of the relevant people and make some adjustments in the future.

Microsoft attaches great importance to user experience, you can submit your ideas and suggestions through the Feedback Hub, and the development team will regularly review submissions for ideas or fixes.

Please share the feedback link here after submitting as it will allow others on the forum to vote for your submission, including me. More votes will lead to more visibility and higher priority to the development team.

Your feedback means a lot to me. As a Support Specialist, I know what users expect and the concerns behind every issue. I feel honored to provide you with some suggestions and hope that my efforts will come in handy for you.

Thanks, I found a way around the problem using Windows folders with the camera connected via USB, gives the option to upload files by dated folders. This bypasses the need for a designated program.
