Windows 11 connects to headset but mic is not functional.

I recently updated to Windows 11 from Windows 10 on a work issued Dell Vostro. My bluetooth headset (Bose nc 700) connects, BUT the mic doesn't function. The headset is listed as my default audio output and input device on my computer, and I have run through the audio source fixes in an attempt to fix this. I have reached out to Bose, and I have run through all the audio drivers on the computer in an attempt to fix the issue, but it persists. The odd thing is that this is a regular problem, but occasionally the headset works fine. I should also mention that this headset works as expected on my Mac (my personal computer), as well as when using it on my phone, and when I was running Windows 10 it was perfectly functional. This post is more of a "you (MS) have a bug, please fix it" than a cry for help. I've spent hours going over the user end fixes and none of them have worked.

Hello,

Thank you for using Microsoft products and posting to the community.

On Windows, Bluetooth headsets work in 2 modes: AVRCP mode with regular-quality sound but no microphone, and Hands-Free mode with low-quality sound but with microphone support.

In Windows 10 you can manually toggle the mode. In Windows 11, the mode is automatically determined by the currently running application, and you cannot switch anymore.

Microsoft attaches great importance to user experience, you can submit your ideas and suggestions through the Feedback Hub, and the development team will regularly review submissions for ideas or fixes.

Please share the feedback link here after submitting, as it allows others on the forum to vote for your submission, including me. More votes will lead to more visibility and higher priority to the development team.

As a workaround, since the headphone model supports using a headphone jack, you can use the audio cable included (or another 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm audio cable that supports microphone) to connect to the computer.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Best Regards,
