Windows 11 can't click mouse anywhere on lower 1/8th of screen

Having an occasional issue (40% of the time) I can't click anywhere on the lower 1/8th or 1/16th of the screen, gives me a busy cursor until I move up to a specific area.

This is more of an annoyance, but seems to be getting worse, or more numerous at least. I can't find anything that directly makes it worsen or better. It is always in the same place of the screen, and goes away abruptly and at random. Same for appearing. This has been an issue for 2 months now, and have been through multiple updates.

Could be installed software that uses an overlay and not actually Windows or a window that's otherwise not getting drawn. That's what it looks like anyway considering that you can't click there and it has the busy cursor.

I doubt its the task bar being drawn incorrectly, but if you move the task bar to one of the other sides, you can see what the result is.

If you can't find the thing causing it, I would either reset Windows and clear everything (make sure of backups first), or manually remove all applications and software that doesn't come with Windows and see if it still does it. It shouldn't.

Safe mode might also work as a test without having to remove or reset. In general, I don't do this as its just meh to me.

Same issue and same version as Gary there. Just happened to me in the last few days and this is a pretty stock machine. No fancy wallpapers, no UI based third-party add-ons. Top of the screen everything is fine. Even with no windows open, move the mouse down and it turns to the blue spinning circle and it's almost impossible to get it to recognize mouse events. Task bar again goes back to normal.

****??

It's not even just the bottom of the screen per se -- it's a rectangular zone down there

Really - this is just a normal install using a static background wallpaper and no UI enhancements other than Windows powertoys (see vid)

FWIW, in this thread I noted that I did a revert of a recent update and the problem as gone away. No, I don't have the update number -- it was in Safe Mode the "most recent quality" update.

Same issue here on Windows 11 Version: 21H2 - OS Build: 22000.469

The issue first appeared a few weeks ago and then went away but I notice this evening it has come back. Like another member mentioned, it's a rectangular area just above the start button in the task bar which seems active, it's as if there is a busy window there which is hidden from view. The mouse cursor just spins showing that it is busy. You can literally draw an outline with the mouse to see where the active area is, see screenshot below...

Of course the negative impact of this bug is that if you can access the start menu, you cannot click an areas affected by this hidden boxed area. Likewise when navigating some websites when you scroll down you cannot click the links to the next page if it falls within this hidden boxed area.
