Windows 11 Bluescreen, NETIO.sys [SOLVED]

Hello All,

In Jan 2023, my ASUS ROG MAXIMUS EXTREME Z790 with Windows 11, began randomly experiencing bluescreen, due to netio.sys. This was after running normally for close to 2 months.

Stop Code: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

What failed: netio.sys

minidump Files:

After applying all Windows and ASUS updates, the bluescreen continues.

Things I've tried:

  1. Using PowerShell: sfc /scannow
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    Once done, restarted the PC

  2. The issue persists; I opened the device manager;
    Updated network drivers, restarted PC

  3. The issue still persists; uninstalled drivers. The issue still persists.
Used "Win + R"; "msconfig" disabled all intel services and was running stable with limited function.

Issue Started: 01/10/23:

A virtual driver on the Intel Trusted Execution Engine Interface was causing the system to crash.

Dave was able to help me with this, here:

Issue Solved 01/25/23:

I was actually able to fix everything.

I had both Armoury Crate, and Intel Driver & Assistant Support installed. These were in conflict with one another.

I uninstalled Intel Driver & Assistant Support and then uninstalled everything Intel inside of Programs and Features.

Restarted PC, Opened Armoury Crate and downloaded all the drivers, followed prompts, and final restart. I've been stable with everything enabled.

Hi, I’m Nicole, I’ll be happy to help you out today.

Based on the dump file that you've shared, may I verify what is the error code you see before netio.sys? These are the usual error code.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_EQUAL
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

The file that is causing the BSOD is connected to the network driver that you have. You may have a malfunctioning or corrupted driver on the system.

First, run this system check.

On Powershell(admin), copy, paste and enter each command below:

sfc /scannow

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Once done restart the PC and check.

Monitor the system after this. If the issue will persist, proceed with the next steps.

Open device manager by right-clicking the Windows logo then click device manager.

Next, double-click network adapters to expand it.

Next, right-click your network driver then click update drivers.

Next, Select “Search automatically for updated driver software” and follow the on-screen instructions to update your drivers

After a successful update, restart your computer and see if the NETIO.SYS error still occurs

Monitor again the system. If the issue still persists,

Go back to device manager>Netowrk adapters

right-click your network driver then click uninstall drivers.

restart your computer.

Let me know the results afterward.

Thank you.

Okay, thank you so much! I was able to do everything up to search for drivers, and I did update intel network drivers.

I'll continue to monitor it and come back here if I experience it again or don't have any issues I'll also make another comment letting you know it worked.

Hello,

Just adding some information...

I have the exact same motherboard and had the exact same issue at the same time as this poster, I had been using it with no issues for 2 months. Then sporadically started having crashes due to netio.sys. The error code associated with it was: "SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED".

I ran Intel Driver and Assistant Support Assistant and it found updates to the Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX411 adapter. When I ran that update after install, it completely broke Windows. It immediately blue screened and anytime it tried to reboot it threw a "IRQL_not_less_or_equal" error immediately after starting up causing it to reboot again.

I had to go into Safe Mode and I do not need the Wi-Fi adapter whatsoever, since my computer is always LAN connected, so I just disabled it (instead of rolling back since rolling back would have more than likely continued the netio.sys issues) in Device Manager and have had no issues since doing that.

I lost the dump files associated with the netio.sys but it looked identical to the posters dump...

I have the dump files for the IRQL crashes but WinDbg cannot compile any of the dumps for some reason, I've let it sit for an hour and Windbg just hangs so I can't check to see what the issue is. Restarted the computer and still can't get the dumps to load.

Seems like there is an issue with this motherboard and the latest Wifi adapter updates.

I am in no need of assistance as I don't need the driver/adapter that is associated with this error, just passing along information.

After installing the latest BIOS update: 0813 and uninstalling and then reinstalling the Wi-Fi driver I'm still experiencing BSOD.

Nearly 24 hours passed before the next crash. and then every 10 minutes until uninstalling; Windows 11* WiFi package drivers 22.190.0 for the Wi-Fi 6E/Wi-Fi 6/9000/8000 series Intel® Wireless Adapters

Stop Code: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

What failed: netio.sys

The solution I'm trying at the moment is just leaving the Wi-Fi driver uninstalled for the time being.

Inside of MyAsus, they have a Windows 11* WiFi package drivers version 22.150.0.3 I may try using to see if its stable.

Okay, after everything yesterday, I just experienced the same crash without the Wi-Fi driver installed.

Did you have the 10 Gigabit ethernet network adapter? I'm currently testing whether or not I see a crash with it uninstalled.

I tried uninstalling the Wi-Fi adapter but still experienced the BSOD as late as today. So, I went ahead and reinstalled it.

I've also updated to the latest BIOS v0813

I'm also having issues with just getting my windows to boot up. Bsod 4 different errors and freezez. Does anyone know if it's a driver issue for Asus z790 extreme ?

I've tried re installing windows 10 and 11. Changed the ram also the m.2

New bios 0813 still nothing. Ran all the scans on PowerShell.

Someone please help
