Windows 10 won't go to sleep automatically

I'm running Windows 10 Pro (20H2) and recently discovered it had stopped going to sleep automatically.  The Sleep function worked OK manually and waking up was not an issue, but my Sleep settings were simply not working.  I followed the numerous postings on this issue and tried a number of 'solutions', but none of them worked!

However, I subsequently discovered that it was a Microsoft Edge setting that was causing the problem (see image below).

I disabled the 'Start-up Boost' and 'Continue running...' options and my problem was instantly resolved.  I haven't tried turning the 'Continue...' option back on to see what effect it has, but I'm just pleased Sleep is working automatically again.  Hope this helps?

Sweet dreams!

Good Day DeltaGolf,

My name is Carlo, I'm an Independent Advisor and community member like you.
I am also using Windows 10 pc. Let us work together to sort this out.

Here's the steps you can try.
Disable fast startup

Open “Control Panel” and click “Power Option”,
Click “Choose what the power buttons do”
Click “Change settings that are currently unavailable”
Disable “Turn on fast startup”

-Click Start, type CMD and run as administrator.
-Copy and paste the command below and hit enter.

powercfg -restoredefaultschemes

-Press Windows key + X
-Go to Device Manager
-Expand the Network Adapter
-Look for the Wireless driver that was installed
-Right click and go to Properties
-Go to Power Management Tab
-Put a check mark to "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power"

Restart your computer and configure the sleeps settings configure when will the screen will go to sleep.

I hope the information above helps. Please let me know how it goes.
Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

Sincerely,
Carlo T.

I stopped all background services and it DID NOT fix my issue like it did for you, HOWEVER,  I stumbled onto something that "may" help others...

Set your Montitor NEVER to shut off

Set Your Sleep Timer to desired value.

Works for me on 2 separate PC's running Win10 !

Seems to be a windows bug when both of these power settings are set, with the latest 2004 update.

will try it on my 20H2 machine shortly...

Finished testing on 20h2

no luck

tried all combinations of monitor/sleep

turned off edge as recommended

turned off ALL background apps

If I force sleep it will sleep

but either on a scheduled task or using windows power setting for sleep

windows apparently has a "bug" in dtected idle like they used to...

Put an ICON on desktop for now so i can force sleep when I walk away
