Windows 10 - WiFi - Dynamic key exchange did not succeed within configured time

I work with a small museum.

We have four laptop computers and several other devices that use our WiFi and have been working fine for over a year.

The computers are running Windows 10.

Again things have been working fine for over a year.

Suddenly two of the laptops cannot connect to the WiFi.  I take the laptops home and they connect to my home WiFi just fine.  I know the museum WiFi is fine because other computers are still connecting.

I have tried all the standard uninstalled the drivers, look for updated drivers, uninstall the Wireless device.

I ran [netsh wlan show wlanreport] and found this message: "Dynamic key exchange did not succeed within configured time" has happened 128 times.

Does ANYONE have any idea how to fix this?

Thanks, Randy

Hello Randy,

Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft community.

I appreciate you for providing details about the issue and your efforts towards resolving it.

  1. What were recent changes made on the computer prior to issue?

  2. What is the make and model of the computer?

I would suggest you toreset TCP/IP and check if it helps.

Refer this article:
How to reset TCP/IP by using the NetShell utility
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/299357
(Also holds good for Windows 10)

I hope this information helps.

Please do let us know if you need any further assistance.

Thank you

That is the frustrating part, there has been NO hardware or software changes to either laptop having issues.

My best guess is a Windows 10 update was applied since I have auto updates turned on.

I did note the build is 10586.164 on the first laptop.  Did not manage to check the builds on the other computers.

The two laptops that stopped working are:

  Lenovo Model 20182

  Dell Inspiron 15

I setup a new printer which was able to connect to the WiFi on the first try, and my personal laptop and cell phone both connected as usual, which again tells me it is NOT a router issue.

The article you reference does not reference Windows 10.  Is the process still relevant?

I will be at the museum next Saturday.  So I will try this process Saturday on one of the laptops.

Thanks, Randy

I tried using the Windows 8.1 because there is no specific instructions for Windows 10.

The command did NOT create a log file.  I tried twice using the path to the C:\, then thinking Windows 10 does not like people messing with the root of the C: drive tried C:\Temporary.  No log file either time.  I did do a screen capture which I will document tomorrow.

Both times did NOT fix the issue.  The laptop still comes back with "Cannot connect" message.

This issue is still not resolved.

It is very frustrating because these two laptops used this WiFi for a year and then suddenly all I get is "cannot connect".

Other computers/devices still access the WiFi fine.

I have attached a new printer and a cell phone to the WiFi in the last week and they had no problems.  So I really do NOT think it is the router.

It is almost like the latest Windows 10 update did some change to the WiFi security.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Randy

I opened the command prompt as Administrator.  My account is a local Administrator.  The laptop is NOT joined to a Network.

Issued the command [netsh int ip reset]

Results:

Resetting Interface, OK!

Resetting Unicast Address, OK!

Resetting Neighbor, OK!

Resetting Path, OK!

Resetting , failed.

Access is denied.

Restart the computer to complete this action

So what failed?

What higher rights can I have than Administrative rights?

Thanks, Randy

OK, I contacted CenturyLink support.  They said that a firm ware update failed and there IS a problem with the modem.  So we need to replace the modem.

Thanks for everyone who tried to help.

I guess I should have started with the hardware.

Thanks, Randy

Hi RandyCO,

I also use Windows 10 and face this issue too

I found this post and I tried to follow do "netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt" or netsh winsock reset

Finally I can connect to WiFi again by

Click WiFi icon the right down -> Network Settings -> Manage WiFi settings

Scroll down to Manage know networks and select the once which have problem

and Forget then try to connect again

Not sure this will help your case but it is work! for me and I use this that WiFi to reply this topic

I had a very similar issue with one of my Windows10 laptops which suddenly just refused to connect the wireless network. If the security taken a way from the wireless the laptop connected with no issue but once the security back it got the "Can't connect to this network". The error "Dynamic key exchange did not succeed within configured time"  was all over the wlanreport.

Resetting the TCP/Ip settings using the NetShell utility worked perfectly for my issue from the very first try.
  Thank you very much,
