Windows 10, version 1803 is incompatible with antivírus McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.8.0.1804

Windows 10, version 1803 is incompatible with my lifetime antivírus McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.8.0.1804. Can Microsoft solve it? I have I lifetime antivírus licence and with windows last update I can't use it. I already reverse the Windows update but I don't want to lose one of both.

Option 1: Refrain from upgrading until McAfee provides support for Windows 10 1803:

How to block it if you don't want to upgrade:

You won't lose the Windows 10 Upgrade, it will be available for the next 7 months and McAfee is likely to update their software before then.

Option 2: Remove McAfee and work with the build in Windows Defender.

Hi Jorge. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

No expert in Forums where we see the most cases (by the tens of thousands) recommends Norton or MacAfee, but we do solve problems by having them uninstalled. I would uninstall any 3rd party antivirus and try running only built-in Defender which gives adequate protection, least issues, and is from Microsoft who knows how to protect their OS best. If you want the best on-demand scanners install and run Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner free scanners.

How did you upgrade to Version 1803, and when?

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

It was updated yesterday. On the update says that it was incompatible with Mcafee and I uninstall Mcafee to get windows update. After windows update I tried to reinstall the antivírus but now windows says that is incompatible with windows version and block it. I reverse to previous windows version to reinstall the antivírus. Meanwhile I suspend windows update.

I should agree about your opinion concerning Microsoft is the best to protect her OS but I have infections with defender before have Mcafee. If it's working well I should have the chance to stay with my antivírus.

You will need to upgrade VSE using 8.8 Patch 11 (version 8.8.0.1982). There should be an available update for this in the McAfee ePO console.

Hello to all,

As many above I also faced the incompatibility of McAfee with 1803 before and after the upgrade.

I will mention below a solution to install it back after upgrading to 1803 but I would also like to mention that I am still testing it to see what exactly is changed if anything compared to before 1803 installation. Until now nothing but do not help me responsible for anything if you do not test it in your environment .

Steps to follow:

1. Upgrade to 1803 uninstalling McAfee and starting defender, just to be safer (not safe)

2. On the installation kit go to  SetupVSE.exe . Normally if you run it as it is , you will get a incompatibility prompt.

3.Right click on the exe and go to proprieties > details

4. Click on the "Remove Proprieties and Personal Information link"

5. Click Ok to create a copy of the exe, then run the "Copy" exe.

Running the new exe in my case did not result in any errors and installed normally the endpoint.

Hope this helps at least for some of you,

Regards,

Mircea

WOW! All this talk advising to use only defender...… From an MVP??

I wonder if Microsoft only use Defender and nothing else?

I could not upgrade/update from windows 10 pro version 1709 to windows 10 pro version 1803 without complete failure for at least 5 DOZEN times. Finally replaced the hard drive with a larger hard drive same manufacturer, crucial 250 SSD to crucial 500 SSD. After installing windows 10 version 1803, finally, I reinstalled and activated all other licensed software and here comes my disappointment slash anger issue, My Canon LBP 6200 laser printer says no driver is needed but no driver is installed and I cannot longer use this printer. It worked just fine with windows 10 version 1709 and should do the same with the new version. Also I am using

soda PDF as my HTML web site printer and it was no longer allowed to be installed as a PDF printer but I will see what the manufacturer has to say about it. However I expected to use my hardware and software the same way I used it with the previous version of windows 10. It is obvious to me that Microsoft is forcing people to purchase new hardware and I find this highly unethical furthermore I will notify Canon if my printer is unusable and they cannot provide a driver for this printer for window 10 I will no longer purchase Canon products and Canon Products will be added to my list of internet trash companies and will keep company with HP that is on this list  of internet trash companies for over 8 years now. I stopped purchasing any HP products over 8 years ago due to the lack of diversity and integrity HP has practiced for a long time. So my plan of purchasing a new Canon  printer in December this year and give my son my older printer is put on hold. In any case I should have zero problems in using my software and hard ware as I have used it in the previous configuration in windows 10 version 1709.  hope I can resolve these problems to my expected satisfaction and if not I have no choice but to clone my windows 10 version 1709 hard drive to my new hard drive, disable updates, disable Microsoft security and replace it with another anti virus software and also disable other windows 10 functions I do not use on my desk top. Does anybody have any idea why I suddenly have these problems?

FYI: I am running WINDOWS 10 Pro x64 on an OLD HP Pavilion desktop purchased in 2005 with an AMD Athlon dual core 5600 (x64) with 4GB of PC4200 ram (DDR2-533MHz). I use Webroot SecureAnywhere antivirus. My printer is an old HP LaserJet 4000 purchased in 1998! It works just fine with Windows 10 Pro.  HP is a great company that writes the drivers for old printers. Canon DOES NOT.

MICROSOFT and HP are top tier blue chip companies that have been doing great things longer than most.

WINDOWS 10 is definitely the best OS to date. I am not an expert like these MVPs.  But, I have used almost every version of DOS and Windows.  Windows 10 is an amazing team achievement.

Windows 10 Pro x64 version 1803 OS build 17134.285

Have you tried running Mcafee in Compatability Mode.

The screenshot shows Malwarebytes but you will see the same options for Mcafee Properties.

Sometimes this helps.

Sometimes not.

Malwarebytes Premium has Real Time Protection.

It will catch viruses & other bad things that Windows Defender will miss.

I do not rely on Windows Defender alone because it will not catch everything.
