windows 10 upgrade, 20GB ram (3.4 usable) ?

so I was able to upgrade to windows 10. I have 20 GB of ram installed. its shows I have 20gb of ram through my pc, properties, so on. but it is only using 3.4. I understand it wont every bit of the 20 gb but seriously? that's a lot of ram going to waste and that something id rather use for .. idk Gaming.. Mutitasking, streaming, but mostly gaming.

to update, I tested my ram drives out a week later. just ordered a new on to test with and turned out some  drives had to of been bad. 10.9 out of 12 is a lot better. its not 20gb, but better than just 4gb.

Can we get a snip of your task manager>performance>with ram highlighted?  I suspect you have a huge amount of hardware reserved ram

Can you check what edition of Windows 10 you are running? I suspect you have the 32 bit version and not the 64 bit.

as you can see by the screen shot or "snip" I showed   ZigZag3143  its defiantly a 64bit. this is my personal built pc. i have a 32bit and came across that issue before. wasn't a big deal though.

As I suspected you are reserving 16.6 Gb of RAM for hardware.  That can be because of page file, a mis configured video card driver, etc.

Please run a system file check (SFC) & DISM  if you are on win 8 or higher

All instructions are in our Wiki article below...

That's what I've figured as well. Thank you for the link, that was easy to do. How ever it didn't seem to change anything on upping my availability of RAM. At first I was getting an error code 87, after the 3rd attempt (I just copied and pasted from what was on the link) it ran. I did everything on the list. first I did step by step, then by the ending point I did them all. The results after every scan was good, as in nothing found- nothing corrupted.

Still nothing has changed.

Surely I must be missing something.

                                         Any thoughts????

I've even tried regedit and msconfig. And still nothing. I've updated my bios. I read something on mapping you ram, but I'm not sure my main board even had that.

that's my board if there is any suggestions. I've even switched around and double checked my ram. Nothing seems to work.

Are you still reserving a huge amount of ram for hardware?

Is the page file managed by the system?

Do you have USB cards (microssd) plugged in?

Does it do the same thing when you boot into safe mode (use msconfig to boot into safe mode)?

It still shows its reserved. Idk if the page file is managed by the system, how would i go about doing that? There is no USB that's connected, didn't know that could affect it, how if I may ask? I shall try the safe mode and get back to you. Thank you very much for helping.
